Does the process of resizing conrods involve machining the big end bearing surfaces to spec, or something else?

yes. they'll cut/grind/machine some off the rod or cap or both, and hone it to size. its center to center will be a little shorter and its deck height will be a little more.

sorry for the confusion. in my book, if i could write -
piston deck height is the distance between the piston head/deck(not its pop-up or dish) & block's head surface.
block deck height is the distance between the crank centerline(mains) & block's head surface.

here's a guy that says it's from the "pan rail" to head.

here's an article titled "Deck Height" that doesn't even mention it!! http://www.circletrack.com/techarticles/1805/

Isn't that unpossible? If the centre-centre is shorter then deck height *must* also be shorter.

Oh unless deck height is measured the other way (ie the lower the piston the greater the deck height) Embarassed

thats only if they mill the rod, if they just do the cap then the center to center will be like 0.0015"
or 15 ten thousandths of 1 inch

Please elaborate; your sentence fragment is not clear in meaning.

If you're saying replace the rod bolts as well, then yes, I intend to.

i dare say thatws what he means

So the deck height won't change then when the conrods are resized....but the piston may sit lower ... ?

risize rod bolt holes aswell and have a machinist fit the.better than just knocking them in and always replace them.
