i have been quoted 160 to have my tacho converted from single coil 4cyl to single coil six cyl.
Does anyone know what circuit board you would have to fit to make it work with the six? i dont want a aftermarket tach either as the car has a strict no bling policy.

I had some tacho issues and VDO put a new circuit board into my tacho which had the option for 4, 6 or 8..
Was around $120 in total I think.

well you could use a factory tacho from a 6 motor or find a stock looking aftermarket one or pay 160.

A MA45 should be a good substitute for a RA23/28/40 unit.

Sixworks *may* have their tach adaptors out.
Not sure.
Otherwise who did you ask?
I tihnk Tisco Instruments do it, no idea on the cost though.
Maybe Jaycar do a kit?

Kind of a hi-jacking here, but I've always wondered about this topic..
I've always had the understanding that the 'trigger' is 'high' every time a spark is sent, so wouldn't the only difference between a 6 and a 4 be the amount of 'high' signals between each rotation?
Therefore, it'd be fairly easy to rig a circuit up to imitate a 4cyl, from a 6cyl feed. Count 6 signals, timed, then output 4 at similar rate.. I'm sure a tech head would be able to rig up an IC that could do that. I mean it sounds dodgy, but when you consider how many RPM's your regular engine does, it should be pretty accurate..... Shouldn't it?
