OK OK i know its not toyota, but calm down. My mate wants to buy a silvia S13 probably, but his dad doesn't approve because he claims parts are hard to find for them, is this the case?

Parts are easy to find eg, panels, lights etc. Upgrade parts are even easier, even Autobarn stocks bolt-on upgrades like manifolds etc now.

Almost any nissan parts are as available as if it was a commodore.
Like people have said - walk into autobahn Nissan this, Nissan that...or even sprint...
ask for a 2003 corolla k&n air filter or cold air intake - different story.
Parts express from the US.

Yeah i always thought they were piss easy to find, coz you know, jap is everywhere, so repairs and everything, it wouldn't be an extensive hunt for parts?

With the number of nissan 'drifters' I would say parts are easy as.
and ca18's / sr20's are like 3 for $5.00....
almost every wrecker has at least one ca18 or sr20....

This is not the case.
S13 parts are the most common parts around.
If your mate buys an sr20 and doesnt mod the shit out of it, itll run great for as long as he needs it, and he most likely wont even need to go parts shopping.
My mate owned a silvia sr20de for a while before upgrading to an sr20det, and he never had any problems other than the a/c, which is fairly universal.
Personally ive owned a GTiR (sr20det) and it was solid as a rock. The only mods my mate and i had done, were exhausts, becasue thats all they need for decent power.
My mate was impressed enough with his silvia that his 32 GTR is considered just a slightly bigger silvia to him.
Tell your mates dad to ring around all the import parts yards and ask if sr20 parts are rare, so that they can laugh at him.
Also tell him that the pulsars run an sr20de engine in them too. Does he have probs with pulsars?

when my mate got defected for his exhaust (s13), the mechanic couldnt find a stock silvia exhaust system anywhere. i think they actually ended up getting one from an integra or something

Easy to get "performance" parts and "bolt-on", things like radiator hoses, waterpumps, belts, coils packs, engine mounts etc are a little harder.. you wont find a bursons/repco/autobarn with this type of stuff sitting on the shelf

luckily a lot of engine parts are interchangeable between the s13 and australian s14 and s15's.
any other parts can be bought from a dealer.
things like filters, belts, brake pads, discs etc. can also be found at any parts store.

tell him if the ammount of aw11 stuff was one tenth the ammount of silvia stuff i would be cheering. silivas are the commodore of grey imports. every kid with his p plates has one and invenitably belts it into something leaving an abundance of bits floating around wreckers

For examples though, the parts i mentioned above CAN be found from a dealership, but you generally cant get them on the spot. they themselves and aftermarket parts shops will have to order them in,taking a few days...maybe longer if its to be imported.
So if your car's stuck on the side of the rd with a blown hose..
yesterday a guy came into work asking for a top radiator hose for a 180sx. Gates dont stock them yet (another month), i didnt try mackay.. The guy had also just said to me that he spent the morning hunting around in Wreckers/importers for a 2ND HAND hose with no luck.

yea I get that all the time at work as well, people coming in with different imports and me never being able to get them the part they want, although sometimes they get lucky because is some referencing books the also list New Zealand cars and because there more common there they actually have the parts. half the time even when looking for parts for my car the some times dont list it.

about finding parts at repco and the like.
my mate needed mounts for his s13 sr20de,
the only part repco had in stock were genuine NISMO mounts.
but they can order pretty much anything in.

My dad used to be like that, just cause it wasn't sold in AUS he thought a cars parts were rare as hens teeth. If it'll help your mates case (which it probably won't ) tell his old man young kids buy em and wrapem round trees all the time so theres heaps of parts!

s13's are a performance bargain heaps of aftermarket support so its quite cheap to make em go quick kinda like rotors
