Has anybody done this at home?

It says you need special hoses/breather tools todo this task.. Who has done it or worked around it without the hoses?

I have done it, and it isn't hard. Just a bit time consuming to get it right.

Hoses arn't special, just go down to your local auto shop, and get some clear 6mm (i think) tubing. And connect them to the 2 bleeding points in the front.

It helps to have the car on a slight uphill slant. To encourage all the air to escape.

If you drive around the car, and its bubbling, you havn't gotten all the bubbles.

Another good link for ya...
