to be honest, there is nothing really special about that rebuild
he polished the valves, what a waste of time
all the sandblasting of manifold/pipes ect ect is just for cosmetic reasons, takes me less than 10 mins to do an entire 4AGE head
Quote: |
they DID NOT like being ground. The first valve I offered up to the surface grinder in a six jaw chuck was ok for about 50% of the surface area. then when it was cleaning up more so it started to 'ring' and I reckon the head was about to jump off, I was lucky. Even with only 15mm sticking out the 6 jaw I reinforced the the gap between the seating face and the face of the chuck with plasticine. (common practice in a tool shop) this reduces the nymonics (sound vibration) and stops the valve wanting to ping off its stem when I take a cut! - could have been messy!! But with some careful machining here they are.
|
maybe he should've given them a hit in that beadblaster of his, or on a wire bench grinder
then lapping the valves in is not necessary if the valve/valve seat cut is done properly
and he doesnt even get the head vac tested to make sure there are no leaks
btw, polishing of a head is not necessary {can be for some types of fuel}
all that effort and he didnt even use new pistons
