ive got a strange noise coming from my engine.
its a whiney type noise, sounds like somehting is squeaking together.
only happens at higher revs.
i have an idea that its either a bearing in the motor, or its the water pump.
ill record it tomorrow.
and, it happens whether hot or cold.

alright, i just come back form a bit of trouble shooting.
the belts are all fine.
the oil filter seems to be a genuine japanese item, but it seems rather new, certainly not from 1991 (then the van was made)
i opened the passengerside seat/engine bay and took it for a drive down the road.
i couldnt hear the noise over the fans etc. and i didnt rev it beyond (prediction, since i dont have a tacho) 3.5-4.5 k RPM.
i pulled back into my driveway, closed the engine bay, and once again took it down the road...
i couldnt hear the noise, this puzzled me, because i had just come back from the bottle-o and the engine was well warmed up.
i took it up the street once again, thinking it may be the gearbox, and let it rev freely in neutral, the noise returned,
i then pushed it back into second, and went to about 50ish - 55 km/h and the noise kicked back in.
so.
i am certain, its not the belts, its not the gearbox or diff since it did it in neutral.
which leaves me with a couple of options, i beleive it to be a bearing of some sort, either in the actual engine (main bearing etc.) which i hope to god it isnt, or a bearing/seal/something in an ancillary (sp?).
i will change the oil this weekend, as that does look suspect, but it still hasnt reached 170,000 k's, its next scheduled oil change (the previous change done at a workshop at 160,000).
the engine is a 2Y-C, and i have no idea which oil filter fits, so im off to the ryco website to find out.
