Ta22 Rip Wed, 08 June 2005 16:58 Go to next message
Ode to the mustard pillarless coup.

I have just got out of hospital after 4 days unconcious, a 300 km plane flight.

Yes I wrote a TA22 off on the Taminick Gap Victoria.

I road-worthied it 7 years ago.

Suspension like a rock.

I hit ice at -6 deg on the warbys, Glenrowan/wangaratta Vic.

My girlfriend Kate saved my life, by getting me clear of the potential fire.

I had a 25kg dog in the back, car harness should be compulsory for any animal in the back seat.

The tree ended up in my side, I was hanging out the door.

I loved this car.

Shiroki rear window regulators in this coupe are trully ingenious.
Note these guys designed the frameless regulators for the latest magna body.

Replacement doors have no side intrussion bars...please examine your cars to check.

I hope to remedy my lack of Ta22...any good suggestions.

PS Never crashed before this.

I cracked a full centre dragway in half.

Mate thats terrible to hear... Glad you are ok though. I take it that the dog didn't survive Sad . Even my parents little mini fox terrier has to wear a harness when she goes in the car on long trips. All I can say is, buy and build a better celica. Get a fire extinguisher for it. And your girlfriend sounds like a definate keeper. Anybody that saves my life would be a friend forever.

Dogs should always ride in the passenger footwell if you ask me... it's safer for everyone. They are clear of airbags (if fitted) and they are neatly contained in the event of a front or side collision. Of course a rear end crash is the main problem but at least the dog will be stopped by the passenger seat and is on the opposite side of the car to the driver.

Bad luck about your car, your dog and your injurys... Good luck about you and your girlfriend being alive to talk about the ordeal.

Oh sorry, a bit unclear.....my dog lives because of a car harness, and a properly packed car....note my login : Wirth.

Nothing in the back seat came forward....note the floor in a coupe is really only the front, which in this case was mostly crushed in........I had seam welded the floor pan for stiffness.
I cant say a stock floor pan would have behaved the same, spot welded.

She is a German Wirehair Pointer, and sat on her bed beside me in the ditch.

My girlfriend cut me out, herself first, and that is with a pair of nail scissors.

She dragged me clear.

If anyone knows the how and whys of bravery awards please email the details, she is a city kid without her licence.

I have had my TA22 for ten years, 40kg of welding wire to restore her, full bare metal.

'A' pillars fully rebuildt b/c of rust, please examine these before putting them between you and a show stopper..red gum trees.

I have to many spares to not do another car.

Thank you for the concern.

I am stuck at home still balling my eyes out from the trauma.

I really appreciate the threads you guys have created

theres two type of crash victims, those who put themselves in danger, and those that are unfortunate enough to get into them without it being their fault.

you are the latter, THANK GOD your ok...

and your girlfriend definately is a keeper, real life hero Smile

i cant begin to understand how your feeling right now, and i do beleive i never want to, but mate, you more fortunate than most people.

its good to see that good (in a way, its a horrible thing, but i think you know what i mean) things happen to good people.

get well soon, and bring up another ta22, which is meaner, leaner and steam rolls others Very Happy

All the best mate,

Eldar.O.

I have another TA22.

Picked up today.

Best chassis I have ever delt with...2 over ten years.

Cost a $100 with a DOHC 1600... just need a bonet, and steering gearbox.

Thanks for the support.

I lost 75% of my sight in the right eye, it turns out.

This is really hard to deal with, especially as a fitter.

Oh shit man... losing sight is not fun. Surprised

On the upside it was an accident that caused it and therefore the only thing that will be likely to change is for the sight to maybe come back. ie: If it's due to diabetes or old age then all it does is get worse over time. Accident injuries can sometimes heal. Still a worry though. Confused

It's good that your alive mate, especially after what you described.

I'm pretty inspired that you actually picked yourself up and bought yourself another ta22, especially so soon after an accident like that.

Your girlfriend's a keeper. I would not have a clue how to pay someone that did what she did for you.

Ode to Kate.

I want to nominate her for a bravery award.

I have amensia from the crash, about 5 minutes before, and 3 days after.

On anti-seisure stuff cos of a pea size bruise in my brain.

But the optic nerve damage is permanant, and a risk of blindness is real; annual eye check ups forever.

Ta22's I love because of the frameless door, and quarter window.

They were never a good rally car because of the arse needs more weight...or length in the steering geometry.

Although I am thinking of 4wd, all disks , and Indi suspension.

Has any one done this.

you must of hit your head pretty hard.

I've hit my head once, jumped a pair of stairs in the rain, slipped and landed on the back of my head first. I woke up and din't know where I was and how I got there. Didn't know that shit could happen, thought it was only in movies and stuff.

Just wondering, when you woke up, did you know what was going on?

I woke up 3 days later.

In the Royal Melbourne.

A few visions of Cat Scans or Mri Scans.

Apparently I seemed quite lucid, just every 3 hours I was asked where I was....I honestly thought Wangaratta, Shepparton, or Wondonga.

I cannot remember a thing, about these questions.

I made a escape attempt in a wheel chair apparently, just was chronicly ill everywhere.

Anyone who works in the Health Care Industry is an angel.
