Three Tone Green TA-22 Thu, 09 June 2005 00:39 Go to next message
Hi All,

Just introducing myself to the group.

I've been around the Celica Mark since 1983 when I bought my first TA-22. I still have it. If I can work out how to put up a picture I will. It is three tone Green painted in 2K Acran paint.

The FAQ section here does not give me enough clues to how to insert a picture. It mentions a "Browse" button at the bottom of the page??

The TA-22 was built up to show spec and took out Top Judged Overall at the first ever Four Cylinder and Rotary Nationals. The next year the car was blown out of the water (so to speak) because the detail bar had been raised as a result my efforts the year before.

Current specs:

Mild 2T with dual Mikuni 44mm Side Draught carbies on Mikuni manifold.

Lightened Flywheel and OEM clutch.

Rebuilt stock T50 box and stock rear end.

Koni shortened and uprated front shocks in an adjustable platform strut and Kmac adjustable tops.

Koni rear shocks and Lovells springs

RA-63 front hubs with RDA slotted rotor. Magna TN series caliper.

Stock rear drums with RA23/28 slave cylinder.

ST205 dual master cylinder.

13 x 6.5 Cheviot Star mags with Toyo tyres.

The car is now on Concessional rego in ACT as it is over thirty years old. Now costs only $70 per year of course now limited to club runs and testing only.

The last Canberra Celica Group Dyno day the car recorded 70.2kW which is what I expected from the motor.

Last Supersprint at Wakefield Park I ran a best of 82sec lap on the twenty year old tyres.

I am and have been into Club level Motorsports, such as Motokhannas, Hill Climbs and Supersprints.

I am currently building my third TA-22 into another Sports Sedan to run in Under 2lt competition.

Regards

Rodger

Car sounds awesome dude! Must get pics.

The pictures must be hosted online somewhere to show here, they cannot just be on your computers hard drive. This means no C:/pics/porn/celica.jpg it has to be something like http:/www.users.bigpond.net.au/celica/celica.jpg.

If you know what i'm talking about so far and the pics are indeed online then just click the little icon that looks like this http://forums.toymods.org.au/theme/default/images/b_image.gif and just pop the link to the picture in. Should be all good!

If your pics are still just on your PC then go to http://www.imageshack.us/ follow the basic instructions and you shouldn't have any probs.

Cheers.

I was actually about to send the link to our CCG site, so thanks.

I have a pile of those old fashioned film type pictures that I will progressivly convert and share with the group.

If anyone wants to see the car I'll be at the CCG Dyno day on the 19th June and at Wakefield Park on the 20th July.

G'day Rodger,

This is a beautiful 22, the attention to detail is awesome and when you find out how long it has been around you can see it has been well and truly looked after.

See you at the dyno day (I will be in a green machine too Wink )

Rodger,

Mate some where in amongst my collection I even have an article on your old girl. It was actually one of the TA22's that helped inspire me to build mine.

Be great to see it in person if you bring it along to one of the events.

Re: Three Tone Green TA-22 now with some pics Tue, 14 June 2005 06:48 Go to previous messageGo to next message
OK,

My dad came over the weekend and he let me try his Digital camera.

Here are some pics. I'll be writing articles about the brake set up and other things.

The head lining is the GT version with all the trim and rubbers that match bought new from Toyota.

The cage is a bond half cage suiting an RA28 which bolts to the rear wheel arch and as a result ACT Rego allowed me to keep the rear seating and have passengers in there.

The front and rear chromed bumper bars (sorry no photos yet) have had the number plate mountings removed and blanked off (about 40hrs of work by my dad).

The car as built is now 17 years old odd. Admitedly I rearly drove it through the Ninties it lived most it's life undercover. Now that it is on concessional rego I drive it more and I'll be keeping it for good.

Regards

Rodger

Steering wheel is from a brand called Grand Turismo (beleive it or not) long before those Playstation game thingys. As memory serves, got it from Auto Pro back in the mid eighties. Never had to look for another, so good luck to anyone finding anymore.

BTY, the photo is a bit washed out to show the dash and black trim, the wheel is a bright fluro green.

Yeah the Canberra Celica Club stickers are from a by-gone era, I could not take them off as the committe nominated me for Life Membership way back when.

There is a lot of history in the car and the old Club, the main reason why I am keeping it.

Re: Three Tone Green TA-22 Mon, 20 June 2005 02:36 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Jeffro,

The cage is a Bond Rollbars alloy half cage. It is designed for the RA-28 and as a result bolts to the wheel arches instead of the rear parcel shelf. It meant I could keep the rear passenger seat and belts and hence pasengers, and ACT Rego was happy to keep the car on standard rego.

In the next TA-22 which became my race car I fitted a six point steel cage with arms back to the rear shelf. ACT Rego told me to remove the rear seats and register it as a Type 2 Rally car.

I am not sure if anyone sells alloy cages now because they became outlawed for CAMS sanctioned competition.

I also beleive (not sure though), a full steel cage (six point) is now the minimum requirement. Anyone correct me on this???

Re: Three Tone Green TA-22 (not much on the Dyno) Mon, 20 June 2005 02:50 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Just as a comparison to Justen's GT8.

The 2T gained all of 4kW between CCG Dyno days, up to 74.5kW.

A simple addition of inner valve springs allowed the engine power to roll off at around 7000rpm instead of valve boncing at 6200rpm.

And the bueauty of the 2T was I did not have to remove the head to do it.

Thats pretty tidy.

Quick question, what did you use for inner valve springs and would they be all and good on a 3tc as well?

Re: Three Tone Green TA-22 Fri, 24 June 2005 07:09 Go to previous messageGo to next message
The inner valve springs I have in my race motor are TRD items and the inner springs in this motor I am not sure of.

I picked up another head years ago with springs in it and a TRD replica cam as well. They could well be TRD though. I did not need to change retainers for these springs.

Any of the valve spring makers can make a set that would be suitable for both 2T and 3T motors. One place to try is Performance Springs, in Thornlands Qld.

I have not investigated properly yet but the inner spring from an 18R-G maybe suitable.
