1976 MS85 CROWN Mon, 13 June 2005 12:14 Go to next message
Hey guys

Just found my next project car. Ive come accross a 1976 MS85 crown. He says it has Power windows, Steer and AC..Is this correct and as original from factory?
It has a 4M in it right now, which sounds like its done its rings.

How difficult is it to fit a 7MGE in?

Any info you would like to chuck my way would be greatly appreciated. For the price hes asking it sounds like a steal, but are there many hidden nasties in these old fellas?

Thanks
Blake

haha, a nice home for your supra's 7M, makes it easy so source an engine / gearbox for it. Not that 7M-GE's are hard to find.

The Stitt has a crown from around then with a 7M, not exactly sure what model, but check out his 'my ride' thread for some info perhaps.

Have a look at this site as it should answer all your questions you might have.Just have a good look for rust esp around the boot frame and rear window area.

7M bolts in just a few bits have to be moved around.

Not that it will makke a huge difference my car is 3 models older, than the MS85

I'm actualy doing a big write up of my car's transplant atm. It will be done in a few days. As peeack said check out my members rides, link is below.

You'll have to set it up to run EFI (EFI pump, lift tank, EFI lines), other than that there shouldn't be a whole lot to putting the 7m in it.

Check for rust. Almost all MS85s will be Aussie built. The Super Saloon is the one you want (has everything that opens and closes) and even though these are Jap imports, they mostly are now lumps of rust held together with bog and paint. Even the plastic rusts.

If you have acquired a CS, I would be removing the unrusted and straight bits and scrapping it - shouldn't involve more than pouring a bucket of water on it.

The square headlight models are the 100 series. If you find a Royal Saloon, grab it.

And Blake, I hope you noticed there wasn't a Ford or Holden motor in sight on Sunday.

There were 3 releases of the 80 series.
http://nelli.ikonia.fi/~crowncorona/models/crown/80/1.jpgOctober 1974 to November 1976
http://nelli.ikonia.fi/~crowncorona/models/crown/80/2.jpgNovember 1976 to February 1978

There are 2 round headlights in a square frame.

Here is the 100 series.

I like the coupe. Oh and I saw an MX41 on the weekend. Despite feeling miserable about my Crown, I was blown away.

No probs Shane....we'll catch up some time soon I'm sure.

Oh and Blake, I'll just warn you now, Classicrown is full of intolerant old timers (like me). Any fuckwitry of any description gets you a ticket out of there. Take heed, play it smart and enjoy your (hopefully long) stay. Smile

If you are going to do a 7MGE conversion, try and find a Japanese 7MGE out of an MS137. It runs higher compression (9.8:1) and has a Karman vortex style AFM (like the 7MGTE and 1UZFE). Scour the auctions and you might find a smashed one for not much.

So are you saying i should or shouldnt get this? its a 1976 model. he insists the only rust is around the front and back windscreens. Everything else good. Paint is blue and good too. He also thinks it has only done 47557 original KM, because it is a 1 owner.
no idea whether its a royal or not.
Friday i go to pick it up. for $250, even if it is a POS - not a great loss.

Ok i picked her up today. VERY nice buy.

Does have rust near front and back windscreens needing repair. Also had fixed rust on d/s rear 1/4 panel.

It is a Blue 1976 "Super saloon", in 100% original condition.

4M in it done 47557 ORIGINAL km Surprised I know this due to a log book that was in the car...

It has been sitting in a garage for 8 years unused, the motor runs perfect bar a bit of blue smoke when revved? My guess is Rings or glazed bores from negligence/ rarely being used? Any thoughts?

anyway, im very happy to say the least with my latest purchase

They never came out in Australia with an LSD. An MA61 LSD or TrueTrac F series LSD could be fitted without too much fuss.
