1G-GTE Versions Wed, 11 February 2004 02:36 Go to next message
Whilst browsing through the 1G posts i find people always advise on getting the revision 3 of the engine ...is there a good reason for this? is the only real difference the boost pressure? were previous versions harder to tune?

Thanks for any replys Very Happy

I think the main difference between the Gen2 and Gen3 (the air-air IC versions) is the boost pressure and the computer/tuning.

There are other differences between Gen2 and Gen3 too. I'm not too cluey on all of them. I remember a post from ddeane that listed them though.

From what I remember, the turbo inlet was larger (this is on top of the more boost and more aggressive ECU).

The rocker covers are different between gen 2 and gen 3. The gen 2 has the oil filler cap towards the front of the motor and the gen 3 has it closest to the firewall.

anyone care to confirm that with me?

Pretty sure most of that is slightly wrong.

I think its Gen1's with different rocker covers (could be wrong here)

But Gen2's definately have oil filler at rear of motor.

Trust me, filling the oil at that back is a real pain. Simple fix. Put the N/A rocker covers on.

There is NO WAY you'll get the filler at the front.

What colour are the injectors on the motor you are looking at?

EDIT: Also, post the engine number of the motor.
If its earlier than someone else's who knows theirs is a gen2, you know its a gen2. etc etc.
