My car is an early jdm st185 built in 1989 therefore i was told that it runs different brake pads, rotors and calipers than the later st185 say 91 on wards . i was told that instead of the Australian delivered single pot calipers mine has 2 pot calipers and I'm supposed to look for st165 pads and rotors. so could someone pleaseeeee help me out with some part numbers.
preferably part numbers which will match up with Bendix pads and DBA rotors. cheers.
thanks in advanced.

I should be able to help you out with the part numbers of the toyota pads and shim kit. I should still have the box they came in with my car.
Can't give you an exact answer on the rotors though I know they are almost exactly the same as my aw11 ones and hence lead me to believe DBA 739 would fit. Give them a ring and ask though.
Here's a pic of a early ST185 (left) against an aw11 one (right)

Head to http://www.discpads.com
The early ST185 pads are indeed the same as the ST165 ones, they are listed as Bendix DB1181 on that site (under Toyota Passenger/Celica/1988-89 Celica 4WD) The early ST185's carried over the same twin piston calipers that were fitted to the ST165's. Later ST185's (including all Aus-delivered ones I believe) had single piston calipers with brake pad no DB1129, along with larger diameter discs.
As for the rotors, neither this site nor the DBA catalogue list anything for the ST165/early ST185. As far as I know they are the same diameter discs as the ST162 (DBA part no 739) but I believe they were a bit thicker. The ST185 disc listed in the DBA catalogue (743) is no good to you as it is a larger diameter version (as delivered here) and intended to be used with the single piston caliper only.
Also check out http://www.gtfours.co.uk/ There is a great article in there about GT4 brakes, follow the side menu to Modifications - 165 - Brakes. It has lots of great photos showing comparisons between ST165, ST185 and ST205 brake calipers, pads and discs.
Best to check all this with a brake shop or something as well before you buy anything but hopefully this is a starting point for you.

Hey, glad it was helpful!
Yep, the two pads in that picture are the DB1129 on top and DB1181 at the bottom. discpads.com has pics of each pad as well, when you compare them with that photo you can confirm that they are the correct ones:
If you need to get new discs, your only option will be the DBA 739's for the ST162. These are the correct diameter for your calipers/pads so will work fine. I believe (not entirely sure) that the factory ST165/early 185 discs were slightly thicker to help dissipate heat a bit better, but that won't pose any problem. Lots of people have used these twin piston calipers with ST162 discs before.
DBA 739 discs are 22mm thick so maybe you can do a comparison with your originals. Would be interesting to know for reference.

dude i just popped out side to measure the thickness of my rotors and they are approximately 25mm thick! thats 3mm off if i get the DBA 739 disc. Well DBA is only down the road from me so I'll probably pop down one day and see if they can custom make me a set LoL. well its good to know that the DBA739's are a similar disc.

Don't forget that the 25mm in the MAXIMUM thickness.
There should be a stamped part on the disc which says what the minimum thickness is before replacement.
There's 4mm tolerance in the ST205 discs (32mm - 28mm), so you could be ok.

How weird.. Well this question is directed at any st165 driver who have replaced their rotors: Are you using the DBA739 or similar rotors with which are 3mm thinner than stock? I need a deffinate confirmation cheers...
