how to take out AE86 lower arm? [need help] Fri, 24 June 2005 12:14 Go to next message
From AE86 Manual:

Quote:

FA-15
4. REMOVE LOWER ARM
Remove the bolt holding the lower arm to the cross-member and remove the lower arm.

it sounds easy from the manual, but no...it's not
i unbolted the lower arm bolt but it's too long, the steering rack was blocking the way and i was unable take it out.

so, how do i take them out?
i'll have to unbolt the steering rack as well??

You could be dodgy and force them out with the steering rack still on.. but just take the damn rack off. Not that hard.

Its held on by 2 "clamp" style metal brackets that go over the top of it, which are held inplace by 2 bolts either side. Just jack the car up at a height where you can slide under and look up (makesure your stands are secure) and ubolt the rack, removie it and voi la.

from memory the 2bolts on the passenger side are from the top end, whilst the driver side has the rear bolt from the top, while the front bolt is actually from the bottom (theres a hole in the member/rail which u can put an extension socket in and get the bugger out)...

lol
OR you could try and turn the rack from one extreme to the other... no need to undo rack or anything to get these bolts out. easy as piss. Have done it many times.

yup, full lock left to get the left bolt out, full lock right to get the right out..

doesn't take a scientist to work it out!
