3SGE and AE82/92

anyone done this before...
wouldnt be a bad conversion I reckon...
used to drive a ae82 4age and in hindsight it was a little tiring and unresponsive (due to lack of low down torque) compared to my latter 1994 2.0 pulsar...
looking for a cheap daily driver and easy conversion - how hard is it.....anyone done it????
Im guessing mounts will need modding but what about gearbox driveshafts and hubs???

you can do it but if your going to you might as well 3S-GTE it
lots of custom work, i'd say you'd be looking aroun the 7-8k mark
just get a 4AGZE [130kw] or 4AGE 20v[115kw] or even a 4AGE 100kw Smallport. I've got a small port in my ae82 and it keeps up with/beats on occasion the SSS's
cheers

I'm lifting this thread as I will also be doing this conversion and nobody really didn't answer chrisss's question.
Recently bought a -85 corolla with a 4a-c and I'm going to put a 2gen 3s-ge engine and gearbox from a -90 celica in it.
So... Chrisss.. (If you're still around) Did you do it? Any experiences to share with me?
Is it possible to keep the front struts, hubs, suspension arms and so on and just exchange the engine and gearbox or will I have to transplant that stuff from the celica as well?
(Please don't just tell me to get a 4a-ge instead of the 3s.. I don't want to. )

if u have an ae82/92 your waaaayy better off going a 20v
itll be faster and if u want low down torque buy a celica, but revvving is so much more fun

if u havent been in an ae82 with a 20v in it i suggest you do so before you try do a 3sge conversion you will be surprised how quick it is.
the 20v is a whole differnt world to the bigport 4a and it doenst matter about down low u wont have the thing under 4grand once ur start driving it

zactly nuthing like bein in a ae82 screamin thru the hills at 8000rpm mmm love those quads
seriously mate it is not worth the hassle for just a 3sge, maybe if u were going the 3sgte u culd make it worth it but you gonna need so much custom stuff it really would be a waste of money. you wont get much performance from the 3sge they make about 130?140?
but good luck if u do give it a go

1: I want the car to be street legal here in sweden, which is virtually impossible using a 20v engine that was never sold here at all..
2: The 3S is already sitting beside the car in my garage.
3: The 3S makes 156hp stock.. 160-170 hp is not at all impossible on a limited budget.
4: Plenty of 3S's in the scrapyards over here -> cheap parts.
Last but not least, 5: I've already decided on the 3S. I WILL be doing it, and I'll be happy to tell you all about it when it is finished.
What I want to know is if anybody has done this before. NOT what you all think I should do instead.
Sorry for the yelling guys... I'm not mad or anything..
Just a bit frustrated. Been searching the web for a similar project to learn from before begin but I can't find anything at all..

I would stay away from AE92 4AGZE if you are in melbourne mate...
I have done this conversion and, to tell you the truth, Victoria seems a bit more strict by way of emissions than Australia... It's a Victoria Design Rule, not an Australian Design Rule apparently!
I mean, it's absolutely fine to engineer a 4AGTE with stock 4AC brakes, but they can't engineer an AE92 with an AE92 4AGZE where everything bolts in, no fabrication required etc...
Sorry mate, bit of a rant

Hey..
The photos are online again now. I need to disconnect the server every now and then because I dont want lightning to kill it.
It's nice to see that I'm not the only one doing this seemingly very rare conversion.. Be sure to post pics!!

Pugho
Do you use the 4age gearbox or 3sge gearbox into your car..?
I want to use my 4age box as it has TRD gears & TRD LSD I know that I have to have a custom made adaptor

People told me that I can't use 3sge + Celica box as it is too wide for the track of an ae82 , but you have fit it into your ae82 . is the car can be driven now ?
The 4age TRD box suppose to be very strong and I was told that I have to use 4age box to fit 3sge into ae82

Actually the Celica box is just a little bit shorter than the original 4A-C box that I pulled out, thus giving more room for the engine. Only about 1 cm shorter, but still... shorter..
The 3SGE with gearbox fits in the engine compartment. There is no problem widthwise, but lengthwise is another story. The corollas engine compartment is a bit shorter than the celicas so my intake is dangerously close to hitting the firewall and the exhaust pipe is very close to the radiator.
I will be using the driveshafts from the celica, along with the hubs and struts. My 4AC driveshafts will not at all fit the celica gearbox.
The car is not drivable yet. I have just test fitted the engine in the compartment yet but this week I will modify the engine mounts so they fit the 3S.
Do you think I should make a project thread of my own or is it better if I just keep posting in this thread?
