AE86 fuel sender unit specs Wed, 29 June 2005 01:47 Go to next message
My brother and I are trying to sort out why his fuel gauge isnt working. The sender is reading a resistance of 73.5 ohms. I dont know if this is correct as i cant find any specs on this sender.I also tried shorting the sender wires from the dash and that had no reaction also but maybe i checked the gauge the wrong way im not sure, so if anyone knows how to check that also that'll help.
If this is correct what else do i check and what should the readings be.
thanks guys

The manual (which is also in the Tech docs section of this site) says

F - 3ohms
1/2 - 32.5ohms
E - 110ohms

Dont remember which it was but it was either $250 or $350 for a new one. Just get a secondhand one for $30-40. Mines been great for a year and a half and that only cost me $40.

Also apparently the guage is heavily damped and so it will take a long time to move even if you short it out.

Just my local toyota dealer. They said it would take a few weeks because it needed to come from japan.
