Toyota Tiara RT 20 For sale Wed, 29 June 2005 07:53 Go to next message
I have a friend who has a 1963 Toyota Tiara RT 20that was stored correctly from 1975 -2000 and then serviced and again put back into storage. It was owned by original owners from 1963 to 1975 and traded with a Crown for new cars. It was stored by dealer until 2000 and sold as part of estate. It show 58,000 on speedo and apart from electric fule pump installed in 2000 and gear knob missing is complete. Advice appreciated. Photos available Kind regards Warren Matthews

I would love to buy this car, but I am not allowed to bring home another car right now.

I really like the RT40 coronas but I never knew that these things existed.

Just out of interest, do you have any ideas of what you're after for it?

This really needs to be in a museum... only sell it to someone that you can trust will look after it in the same manner that it's obviously been looked after for all these years.

The owner would like $5000.
It is basically very straight- bit of bog in tight hand guard near top from apparent traffic dent. Runs OK though not registered. Should be restored otr at least refurbished.http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=getfile&id=12903

Wouldn't know 1J if I fell over it. Rolling Eyes
Anything can be made to fit in most cars but by the time you replace brakes, shocks, springs , box and diff etc it is usually not worth it.

It would be far better restored/refurbished as original and much more valuable.

1jzgte is a 2.5L inline six with twin turbo's it would be sacreligious to put such an engine in this car but it'd be hell fun to drive. Specially with the hard as compound tyres it'd have on it now from being stored for so long Evil or Very Mad

You are right- tyres look OK but I would not like to go fast or far on them. It is more for a collector or someone who loves restorations. Can't fit in myself as doing VW poptop camper and have 2 Simca P60s to turn into one good one for Historic racing. Cool

Hi All,
The photos of the Toyota Tiara Sedan RT20 are of a 1964 model not a 1963.....made both years in Sedan, Wagon & Utility then during 1964 Toyota started to move into Corona & Crown models.
Main changes to the 1963 model is the front grill indicators which are oval & dash is rectanglar with a push button panel to the left of speedometer.
When it comes to the price of $5000 unregistered drive away?? its much too steep....more in the range of under $2000 for the local area, i being in Queensland would offer around $1000 due to the distance & transport costs...then there is the cost of restoring it to the original condition.
I see the low mileage of the vehicle as good indicator to someone who IS into restoration of these wonderful little vehicles.
Feel free to contact me at anytime for more information.

Mark, this may sound rude, But are you damn stupid... Five grand for this is basically stealing it, Just look at the condition and its age, God, if I had five grand I would definatly buy this rig, Beautiful car mate.

Hi Again,
Thank you for the return comment, yes im mad in 1 way....to pay the price of $5000! really im firm on what ive offered & feel i have the professionalism to say i know what im talking about.
I agree they are lovely cars, becoming somewhat a rarity now....driving 1 is just superb!! no rolls royce but great to go touring in.
I have added 2 photos into my message....the 1st. photo is of my restored 1964 Toyota RT20 Tiara Sedan,no.2nd photo is of 2 cars, car on right is the same car shown in 1st. photo restored to its former glory....his name is Reg, other darker blue vehicle in 2nd. photo will become a parts vehicle.
Reg has been on the road fully registered since June 2003....been shown at All Toyota Day 2004 & 2005, RACQ Motoring of Yesteryear 2004 & 2005 here in Queensland.
I have a 1963 RT20 Tiara ute as my next project just waiting for room in the shed to start work.
Finally, to have the only Registered Restored 1964 Toyota RT20 Tiara vehicle in Australia feels good mate!!!
Hopefully i have cleared up a few missconceptions.
Feel free to contact me anytime.
Thanks
Mark
