What motor should I put in an RA23 Celica Wed, 29 June 2005 12:05 Go to next message
I have a 1976 RA23 Celica that I am doing up. It currently has an 18R motor but I want to swap it for something with a little more power. If anyone has done a conversion on one of these please let me know os has a suggestion please let me know.

Good basic question.

But it is not that simple to provide an answer.

There are many options, from working the 18R through 18R-Gs and then Quad Cam Toyota V8s fully worked to produce 300+hp.

Need to answer for yourself the following questions:

What do you want to do with your car? Daily driver, full on motorsports?

What is your driving experience?

Budget you have to work to?

What experience do you want to gain from all this?

Do you have time to do or have the work done for you?

If you decide to go beyond a midly worked 18R-G you then need to consider the rest of the driveline and how it may not cope with extra power.

Your comment about a "little more power" suggests to me that an 18R-G with carbies is the go as this is the easiest swap to do and wont bother the Authorities.

I am sure this forum and past threads can provide a lot of answers for this engine swap.

Regards

Rodger
