gday everyone.. i have a question for whoever can answer me!
i was wondering wheather it was possible, or if anyone had done a 4wd drive conversion on an AE82.. before you all laugh at me and tell me to get bent there is reasoning and theory behind my madness, or lack of knowledge as it may be!!!
there was a 4wd drive corolla produced, im not sure which model it was.. A(?)E9*.. whatever it was im sure you all know the one im talking about (station wagon looking thing), but would the running gear from that, or anyother 4wd toyota fit underneath an AE82?
i got my recent inspiration from that of the corollas that toyota rally thesedays (running a celica gt4 set up, 3sgte and 4wd running gear), and as i said was queiring if it was at all possible to do this to an AE82, or is my head up in the sky....
but im thinking that a 4agte conversion mated to a 4wd set up in a 900kg car would go pretty spastic (although it would weigh a fair bit more after the conversion!)
so yeah any feedback, positive or nagative would be awesome..
cheers chris.

i read somewhere a while back in a magazine about some guy that did an entire celica gt4 driveline transplant into one of the new corolla's. The guy said it involved a fair amount of work but it could be done by a novice...

If you want an AWD Corolla, your best bet is to start with a Corolla which is already AWD otherwise you're in for a world of pain. Take an AE95 Tercel, add an A series engine of your choice, go rip some heli's.

Toyota South Africa use to rally one, and this is where TTE got the idea for the AE111 WRC. The car was cover by UK's CCC mag several years ago

hmm i couldnt find anything on the net about the south african car... but ill keep on looking
But would it just be as simple as sourcing the parts i need ie diff, driveshaft etc, and chucking them on or is there much more work involved (re-routing/moving other parts)... im guessing the second option, actually i know it will be the second one but you can always hope

I had this idea many moons ago, but quickly abandoned it. I figuerd mating a tercel with an AE92/3 would work out better, because they're the same series as the tercel (they're an ae95 or something, don't quote me on that)

i also had this idea, but then decided it would be a better idea to just do up a wagon....
look at this page, it may change the way you look at those wagons!

how come you abandoned the idea? too expensive? im slowly getting over the idea myself after realising that it will be alot of work... but at the same time it keeps on appealing to me! a bit of a contradiction but its hard to decide on!
but yeah does anyone have any info on a similar conversion? if so please let me know!
cheers

AE92 DEFINTELY came in AWD format in Hokkaido.
i'm pretty sure there are AE82 4WD's also....
they would be a better base to start from..

Well for one I have another car to invest money into, second I'm no where near mechanically minded to attempt to do this my self, and asking a workshop to do it is just asking to have your bank account raped hard.
