Noise while turning left... Wed, 29 June 2005 12:22 Go to next message
While driving my GT4 if i turn the wheel slightly to the left mainly while accellerating, i can hear/feel a 'grindy' noise/vibration.
If i turn left around a corner, especially while accelerating, i can hear/feel the noise/vibration more.
When turning right it seems to be ok...
Could this be cause by needing the disks machined or could it be something else?
Anyone know a good suspension specialist in adelaide? (not expensive tho)
New tyres have just been fitted and they said the alignment was spot on as well..
Cheers

Is it a low rumbly vibration kinda noise? Is it cyclic when it happens ie the faster you travel, the more the noise will speed up? If so, i'll bet on wheel bearing.

Eddie.

Yeah it is kind of like that, only way to describe it in words is: digga digga digga digga etc... But last time i had the car serviced i asked them to check the bearings due to a noise that i thought was coming from the right front wheel, but they said that there wasn't anything wrong with the bearing..
There is a little movement but they said that they were ok...
Also while driving there is a whiney kind of noise which comes and goes as well...sounds like it's coming from the right front area..disappears around the 70km mark

CV joints?

If it's a clacky clacky noise on cornering, My bet is on CV's

Have a look at the rubber boots, if they are split, some shit has got in there and is wearing out the bearings,..

Yeah wheel bearing would be my first suspect, CV's second.

I have had the heeby geeby's with those two items with subaru's, which are notorious for going thru CV's.

Once there was a nasty rumbling noise that we could never ever find the source of, we changed all CV's checked/replaced wheel bearings and the noise persisted. Got so anoying that we decided lets cut open every one of those wheel bearings to take a closer look, and finally we found the cultprit, the outer shell of the wheel bearing has some very unsual wear marks, and only occasionally would it create this rumbling noise. Anyway we fixed that and the following week another CV whent. Razz

Must of put that same offending wheel bearing back in, instead of a new one when we changed the wheel bearings that day.

my first guess is CV,

the noise would be constant and not be relevant to turning if it was the wheels bearing.

noise on turning indicates CV.

wheel bearings can show these signs too.

When the wieght of the car is shifted on to them when turning can expose the noise.

Car with Fwd + Noise on turning => Prime suspect is CV Joint
Second would be wheel bearings.

CV noise may change with power on lightly/heavily and also with power off going round same corner.

Sounds like any circle work you do needs to be restricted to right hand turns Laughing ... oops did I actually say that. Wink
