Norbie has a big, huge DONG of a box ;)

OK!!!!
I know everyone wants to see pictures of Norbie's huge box so here they are
As you can see the thing is MASSIVE!!!! its also got a very chunky input shaft (much course spline than a W5X!). One can also see that norbie is going to have a whole lot of fun getting that thing into a MA61 shell....tho, it does "bolt up"
I'll let norbie come along and brag about his hugeness now
Cheers

Actually it's a Getrag V161 6-speed out of a JZA80 Supra. And yes, that's a HUGE bitch. I'll get around to taking some measurements and stuff soon so you can all appreciate how much larger it is than a W58 and how much pain I'm in for getting it in my MA61.
One thing's for sure, I'd have to try pretty hard to break this thing...

Noice!
The white nylon rope and black nylon strap are what makes it a significantly stronger box than the Wxx boxes as they tend not to have these
If you do break this you will deserve a kick in the "box"
What are the ratios like in this compared to the Wxx box you are replacing? I know nutting of teh GETRAG!

I knew it was only a matter of time before you posted in here
These boxes are near impossible to kill, aren't they?
What sort of power would you be having to push before you even made a getrag 6-speed flinch?

and power depends hugely on how badly you treat it. there are 1000bhp supras using the stock gbox, to give you an idea.
the ratios are hihgher, meaning norbie has to source a very low ratio f-series (or consider that diff transplant he always talks about, which would probably be harder to fit than this tubby little bitch)

Bah! You lot sound like my parents: "why don't you just buy a nice new car?"
If you have to ask, you won't understand.
As for weight, it's not as heavy as I was expecting but definitely has a few kilos on a W58.
Witzl is correct, it is a very tall box which is what makes me think a new trans tunnel may be in order. It's one thing to bash the tunnel wider, but how the hell do you make it taller?

Difference is that shirt is now well and truly black, worn once and binned, oh and it was free from work, i didn't go out of my way to buy the ghey shirt.
and yes it was 4am and i had already read the w58 rebuild manual's.

The torque rating is clearly not simply engine torque or there would be shattered getrags all over the place. The rating is some kind of industry standard and i would be very interested to hear from anyone who actually knows what it means in practical terms.
One of the reasons i went with the Tremec as opposed to the Getrag for the TTV8 was that rating, although in hindsight it may have been enough. The Tremec is rated at 600ftlbs though so nearly twice as strong for a similar size and a much nicer shift.
The holden/ford T56 6 speeds (also made by Tremec) are rated around 300-350 ftlbs but the double overdrive seems a complete waste of time to me.

thanks for that yeah kinda wondering i know the old five speed for the Xr6 turbo is rated at 450nm or what it produced stock.
Anyone wanna convert those figures into metric, cos as far as i know the T56 was rated at 600-650nm and just wanna know if thats right.
the TKO box you've gone for sounds pretty impressive if you broke that you'd have problems which i doubt you will.

More likely a driveshaft will go 1st.

Sadly my TKO600 is classed by Tremec as 'light duty'....their medium to heavy duty boxes make anything in a car look like it belongs in a Hot Wheels toy
