icon5.gif  1G-GTE wiring question Fri, 01 July 2005 10:59 Go to next message
okay so i finally got my 1ggte today Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

now i was wondering with the wiring, should i pull all the tape off it and remove all the unnessasary wires and then retape it or should i just leave it how it is now?? Confused

question no. 2:
i got the wiring loom and ECU sitting here with me and at the end where the loom plugs into the ecu, there are 2 plugs that fit into the ECU, yet there are 3 ports in the ECU Confused
is this how its supposed to be?

ques 3:
at the same end of the loom (where it plugs into ECU), there are 3 other plugs. what are these for? do they plug into the instruments and ignition switch etc.?? what should i do with these?

ques 4:
near the alternator plug along the loom, there is a 3 pin plug which i presume hooks up to the positive on the battery. 2 of these wires are quite thick
in this plug:
the white goes into: ________?
the yellow goes into: ______?
the black goes into: ___?

sorry for my poor explaining skills

thanks in advance

brett

i am currently doing a GTE conversion. here is a pic of my loom end

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/5016/loom7aa.jpg

Now the left 3 go into the ECU and the other three go around to things like dash, center panel, for heater and aircon. and i am not sure what the third does sorry.

I am not sure why you are missing the third plug for the ECU. maybe it is an auto thing??? but i don.t know

As for your other problem not sure what that could be either. i had a quick look and couldn't find anything with those coloures. maybe the aircon compressor or fuse box?

I did have a three pin plug running to a big ceramic resistor looking thing but they weren't yellow white black.

sorry i couldn't help more

oh and i wouldn't cut the unused wire out. it is too much effort. it will work fine without using them

Ha that metal thing in the pic i took under the loom is that 3 wire thing i was talking about, didn't even realize i took a photo of it.

Does the loom wire to any power or fuse boxes? that may be what the 3rd plug is for?

Question 1: No, leave it as it is.

Question 2: AFAIK there should be all 3 plugs, but the 3rd may be auto plug, can't remember

Question 3: Yes, instruments, start signal, power, etc etc.

Question 4: You sure its not 2 colours per wire? Get a pic. Looked at the diagrams in the repository?

just looking at the 1ggte wiring diagrams, it seems that the 3rd plug (the one i havent got) is where the ignition + and -, batt etc. goes in.

heres a pic of the 3 pin plug i was talking about
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/4007/1ggte00084xs.jpg

it looks something like this from the top

yes im interested in that 3rd plug...ill pm you about it.

that 3-pin plug in the picture, well the 3 wires lead straight into the back of the alternator so im guessing that just plugs into a wire coming off the + battery terminal Confused

ah yes i know what it is now. there is a main thick plug that runs to the batt on the screw on top of the alternator. those three just plug in to the back but i don't think you can wire them straight to the batt though.

It could have something to do with the checking of a working alternator so it may just be to light a light. of it may provide power.you will need to spin the alternator somehow (i have used a drill, you don't get full voltage but at least the top pin should give you the voltage to expect.

looks like the gen3 1g's (what i got) use a 22 pin plug for the ECU feed.

the gen2's are 16 i think
