Melbourne Toyota specialists

Hi,
I know that there is another thread about this, but I want a different list of workshops.
I have heard that Toyospares and Meridian motorsports are good workshops, but they are too far out of the way for me.
Can anyone recommend any good workshops in the northern suburbs or close by that specialise in Toyota's? Or basically any workshop that has done toyota engine conversions.
Even if someone knows or has heard of a former Toyota engineer that is willing to help with a conversion
I have looked for a very long time and have found none that are reputable and that have experience in these areas.
Please help!!!

Im not sure of your location, but if you want some1 who actaully knows toyotas there is IDB in richmond, ian there knows his shit, does not rip you off and wats further more doenst talk shit. Plus the added bonus is that he also has a VASS approved engineer on site (Rowen Carter) and ian is involved in that work aswell, so he knows wats legal and whats not, esp if your thinking conversions ect.
Though it might interest you all to know that Alex's famed 10 second celica last time out (where it was ment to have power to run a 9) could not pull quicker than a 12.2. Alex deny's this and makes no mention of it, however 2 sources in the industry have told me this to be tru as they witnessed it. Though i notice that all this happend after he had a falling out with an employee who had a lot to do with the work on the car, so i will leave you to draw your own judgement.

i live near Thomastown, i will keep IDB in mind, but i know someone who went there and they charged him close to 6 grand for a 4agze into an ae92 corolla that is completely standard.
This is far too pricey considering the engine is standard. I wouldn't want to pay more than 4 grand for the same conversion in the same car...even turbocharging it wouldn't be out of the question for this price considering how relatively easy this is to do.

The prices workshops charge always amaze me, but then you think, they have to charge for their time (think how many hours YOU'D spend working on it, at $60+ dollars an hour) and they have to make a profit. Plus they have to do everything properly/safely.
So if the prices are too scary then do it yourself, but if you can't do it yourself then the bill is going to be big wherever you go.

Henn,
Couldnt have said it better myself, knowing the man hours i have put into my conversion, to hear workshop prices of thousands for a conversion doesnt suprise me. Either way you look at it if u dont want to spend a fortune or cant do it yourself there is no point in starting, cause its gonna be one of the 2.

I would agree if we are to far then Ian at IDB is very good and even helped me out with my first conversion back in 1992 (MAN I FEEL OLD ).
But if distance is your main thing then ESP (aka Toyotowreck)is in blaxland av thomastown 9462-1788.
MATT.
TOYOSPARES.
P.S. And if they stuff it up they will just send it to us to fix So ether way it should turn out ok.

I live in the eastern suburbs and i still found it a bit of a bitch to get to Bayswater, but i can vouch for Matt and the team at Toyospares. Watch out in the members rides thread eventually to see why...

Thanks Matt, Toyotowreck is nice and close to me.
Do they have lots of expertise and experience in doing a 4agze conversion into an AE92 corolla?
Do you know what this sort of conversion will cost me?
Toyospares are highly recommended, but Bayswater would just be a pain to travel to every time.
Thanks.

I'll second the avoidance of Racecraft, that guy talks complete shit, continually.
That said, Toyotawreck in Blaxland avenue are normally pretty happy to help out, but they aren't always the cheapest, and they don't always give you the right bits. They screwed me around day and sent me a bumperbar, and then forwarded it on to Toyospares and then I went there and it had gone back or something. Ended up screwing me around a little. Plus they don't tend to like working on equipment so much, they just supply it.
Toyospares are much better for conversions and import stuff.
(Plus matt will talk your ear off about all stuff relevant, it's not like you'll ever leave without enough information. )

I highly recommend Toyospares. If you want something done correctly the first time at a great price i highly recommend Toyospares . If you want to get the magistrate to enforce an order to get your hardly running if at all car back go to some of our friends in the west . Matt and the guys know their stuff, living and breathing toyota's. I drive from Essendon to Bayswater for parts and repairs to my rally car because Toyospares are the best in melbourne!

learn todo the job yourself you will save $$$$$$$$$$$ long term and know the job is done right as you love your car no one else does.
there are a few really cluey toyota guys on here that are in the northen area who will gladly help you out IF you get your hands dirty, nothing rags me off more then going to "help" someone and end up doing the job myself, so rip that engine out, if you stuff up yell out one of us is likely to help you out... RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH and google some more!!

Allan, I would gladly get my hands dirty and have done so in the past. The only problem that I am having is that I don't have anywhere to put the car let alone do the conversion. Also I don't have an engine crane or any of the tools to get the job done.
It would be ideal (but very unlikely) if I knew someone that would keep the car at the workshop, and every weekend I would go down and help do the work to cut labour costs. I have researched the conversion enough to know that it isn't the hardest thing to do, you only need the right tools, the right parts, and the right advice....that is why I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for this conversion because it is a blatant rip off. I reckon it would only take me a few weekends to drop it in.
So how 'bout it? Anyone willing to keep my car in their shop
