it's a TE71. there's no such thing as an AE70. there was a KE70, and an AE71.
TE71 - 2T-?(3T?)
KE70 - 4K,4KC
AE71 - 4A-C
TE71's were never released in Australia. IMO they look the best, but i'd prefer them without the junk 2T(maybe 3T) engines they had.
would have rocked with a bigport 4AGE in tehm

i beg to differ on the AE70.
google AE70. what do you get? nothing about toyotas in the first page...what does that tell you? everything about AE70's on the net is a mis-typed sillyness like the topic of this thread...
google KE70, AE71, TE71...what do you get? shitloads.
i'll find out for sure, tomorrow, i'll get the database thing happening

On that yellow 86, the front bumper design and all the yellow colour coding is no good.
If I had a yellow car, I would be trying to chuck as much black on it as I could to break it up...

A few corrections to a lot of misinformation.
You cannot tell the chassis code of a *E7* by a photo of the outside, body styles were shared among a number of different cars. The final number in the chassis code refers ONLY to engine size not body style, the first letter is obviously engine family.
To summarise -
TE71 = 2T 1600cc
TE72 = 3T 1800cc (I think this was the T18 in Oz)
AE70 = 3A 1500cc
AE71 = 4A 1600cc
KE70 = 4K 1300cc
Also remember the chassis code does not change between a 2T or 2TG. This is the same as the AE86 with a 4AC in Oz but 4AG in other countries, the 6 refers ONLY to the engine size. AE85 was used to refer to the 3A 1500cc version.

ok no such thing as an AE70
there is a
KE70, which means
K= K series motor
E= Corolla
70= chassis code (square headlights ect)
now people who put a 4age into a KE70 technically if this car had been realsed by TOYOTA from the factory would have to be called an AE70
A= A series motor
E= Corolla
70= chassis code (square headlights ect)
which is why a MA70 supra uses a 7MGTE and a JZA70 supra uses a 1JZGTE, exactly the same chassis just different engines.
and same goes for TE71 they use a 2TG.
does everyone understand?

Biggest load of bullshit EVAH!!!!!
The 7 only refers to the chassis revision. Has nothing to do with body style at all. The last number refers to only to engine size in relation to the series of engine, such as TE71 1600cc and TE72 1800cc.
Amazing how for a car that doesn't exist there have been quite a few 3A 1500cc powered AE70's imported into NZ. In fact my uncle used to own one, it had AE70 on the firewall and a 3A with K50 box in it.
Shit, but that car doesn't actually exist does it since you said so. I must have imagined the whole thing.

No.
You are wrong.
Look at the MZ21 and MZ20 soarer for example.
-Both use the 7MGTE
-Both are series 2 soarers
-MZ21's bodykit was different
-MZ21 has more standard features, and came with air suspension
There goes your theory.

Yeah I realise it never came in Oz, but it gets annoying when you post the correct info and then the very next post someone is still arguing the car doesn't exist. I guess a lot of the confusion comes from most of the AE70's that you see being converted to 4AGE rather than having the original 3A's in them.
As for MZ20/21 I am referring only to the E7* Corollas here as I know this information to be correct, it also applies to KP6* Starlets. But if you look to the E3* Corollas they did have different codes for each body style. It appears to hold for the E8* series (at least AE85/86 anyway) as well but I haven't investigated this fully.

i was more reffering to this comment here, callum u need to settle down a bit mate and as far as my knowlegde extended i wasnt aware of a 3A in the 70 chassis, can you confirm if the car has twin head lights like the te71 gt models that come with the 2tg??
cause the car in the first post looks like a te71 gt with a blacktop 20valve in it,
and also u must understand that in australia there are only 2 different types of headlights types for the *E7* chassis one being the square flat ones and the second being the shovel nose. next time perhaps u could try to be a little less agro and a little more informative and add to the inforamtion already gathered in the thread.
by the way the last number refers to what series of the chassis it was and not only and indication of engine size but more and indication of which options came with which chassis and which didnt ect.

the toyota coding system may seem fairly straight forward but it has many many exceptions, much like the english language.
and yes ae70 does exist i have seen one in real life. it was a 2door hardtop with a 3ac and auto gbox. looked similar to my old te71, but with different front lights and of course different driveline.

Less agro?
Sorry but get a clue. You posted bullshit based on limited personal experience. I posted facts. I have personally seen twin round, small square and large rectangular lights on AE70's. The photos posted are clearly from Japan, not the limited Oz spec models. Twin round is generally (talking Jap spec here, America has other variations) early model same with small squares. There was then large rectangle followed by the sloped front.
Last number refers ONLY to engine capacity. I have seen every different body style in both KE70 AND TE71 and most in AE70. Option don't change shit, the chassis number only changes with engine capacity.
How many Jap spec E7* have you seen? What different engines are available in OZ? Sweet FA, so how can you claim that the last digit isn't engine size related?
