starting problems, XT133 Thu, 07 July 2005 15:49 Go to next message
Hey

On my daily 83 corona, XT133 1.9ltr i think it is

I have a problem on startups, it cranks over slowly, sometimes starts after 5or 6 cranks, or sometimes, starts straight away, or sometimes doesn't start for 3 minutes around that...I feels like flat batt, but the batt is new and that trying on 2 differant batterys from differant cars but the bad thing is, when i use the new battery i got, and also another battery connected with jumper wires, the sucker starts straight away

I have tried a few things but now im stuck in the dumps with what else could be wrong...

I got a new battery, new starter motor(old one cooked itself)

I have cleaned up all the connections getting like 0.01ohms on the earth, and +side of the wires, so its getting thou, just not starting...

checked the new starter motor, and it runs perfect, the car once started runs perfectly

At this point, i have 2 theories

1, the flywheel is stuffed, and not letting it spin properly
2. the engine has somehow gotten more compression and needs more power to start as it

Or is there something else that i havnt checked to make this happen...
Please any ideas

have you cleaned or changed your spark plugs, leads?
timing might be screwed.

I got an XT130. Daily driver? if not drive it more. check alternator output as well, revving at almost 2000rpm the voltage across the batt terminals should be at least 14.4v. if not ur alternator is fucked. if that doesn't work, take the ground (-) terminal off the batt, check if there is continuity (a circuit) between the body and the positive (+) side of the batt. If still rooted, its the engine itself, timing, mixture, compression, talk to a grease monkey.
