Decision Time: RA65 or something else Thu, 07 July 2005 12:32 Go to next message
I have been offered a 1984 Celica RA65. The car is in good condition, the engine has done 200 000k's, new alternater, new battery, new radiator and some other minor stuff.

He wants $3500 for it. It is a rwd and a manual which would make quite a fun combination.

At the moment I have a 96 magna that I am going to sell. After selling it I should have around $8000 for a car.

Now my dilema is...should I buy the ra65 now and have some fun with it and maybe loose some money and in the meantime save for something a little more upperclass in 6 months when I will have around 10 grand or should I spend the money on a $8000 car?

8k gives you quite a bit of selection. What are after?

i wouldn't pay 3.5k for a ra65 unless it's in perfect condition.

Jackel is correct .. top price for a ra65 imo is $3k anything over it must be immac.

if your saying you have around 10k, and you love the looks of 80's cars or an RA65 , and also want RWD (i mean who the fuck doesnt.. poor poor FWD owners LOL) consider a Soarer 88-89 model

or a MA 61 Supra ?

many choices .. but its GREAT to hear someone else is eager for an RA65 .. and with 8k under your belt you could make one crazy RA65:p

Its in pretty good condition so I am thinking of offering him $3000. I like the look of the ra65's and it would be good for a bit of fun.

Whats the resale like on these cars. In say 6 months or 12 months will I have lost to much on the car if I keep it stock?

$3.5k is a bit silly, you can get MA61's for that price these days. Even $3k is too much IMO.

these cars (RA65, ma61, etc) have already done most of their depreciating - price will not change much in the next 12 months. If you like the ra65, you'll LOVE the ma61. it's like the ra65 with nice big silicone implants.

in the end it depends what you want out of the car - the ma61 is great if you plan on modding it later on, but if you're going to upgrade to a newer car anyway (say a 180sx or something with that kind of money) then there's no point shelling out the extra money on a ma61.

and $3.5k is a lot for an RA65 - my advice is to wait it out, something cheaper will come along

I'd say if the RA65 was modded (maybe mags exhaust stereo) 3.5 is fair.

I'd say buy it they are an awesome car and if looked after will most likly outlast us.

I think 3.5 is too much

3 is pushing it

2.5 sounds alright
