Does anyone else know anything about it?

Coupe > hatchback
for sure!
Seeing the coupe ones makes me want a sprinter...if only for the fact that you can still have the fun factor and have decent fuel economy at the same time!

could this be because the 2 door are a cheaper buy in japan? but still very marketable here in oz?

man i dig the coupe a lot.
just like I really love the new AE111 levin and trueno.
if something like this trueno coupe was $6k, and that rust on the lip of the bonnet was the only problem, then sure...
but $9K?
naaaaaaah.

$9k isnt bad because of the current pricing structure and because of how much people are willing to pay for the car.
Fair enough, prices are dictated on what people are prepared to pay for something.
But seriously, come on!
I know the cars are in a totally different league, but the fact you can get crown royal saloon G's and soarers and the like for less than $9k, or spend a little extra and get a hot S13 or something like that...
Of course the cars are in a different class so it is kind of unfair to me to compare them like that... but when a fairly featureless RWD small coupe / hatch is for sale for $9,000 and i could get something much nicer for less.... i just can't justify it.
Having said that, I've never driven a AE86, so I should probably shut my mouth.
One of you newcastle boys needs to let me ride shotgun in one and you take me for a spin on the newcastle cruise on later(17th?) this month.
They are an intriguing little car, i just feel that the whole initial D cartoon has inflated their value somewhat.
I've thought a couple of times maybe sell my soarer and get one of these, purely for the fact that I can still have fun and get away with better fuel economy too...
But they are just too damned expensive!

Evan wrote on Fri, 08 July 2005 16:14 | High price is due the fact that they are rare in this country. A rare import are usually dear.
But fuck. 9 g's isn't mush for a car. Not for something as fun as a little rear wheel drive import
|
Yeah I know. In the grand scheme of things, aint much at all. But you consider the age of the car, and how much you're paying for it... and then it looks fairly expensive.
Still, I see your point however.
Mind if I have a look at your car on that newcastle meetup?
I've yet to have a good look at an AE86 in the flesh... you can tell me all about 'em

I dont know what the point of this was, but yeah, that was my point. Black leather dash and velour interior with electric seats, or cloth seats and standard square dash with mechanical seats? Which would you expect to be more expensive?
either way, it doesn't matter. They are both very nice cars.
Evan,
I PM'ed you, but I didnt know you didnt have an '86. I figured from your avatar you did... or is it getting fixed or something?
Hope you can make it out on the 17th july.
Cheers
James

i wasn't baggin them out i was just stating that just cos a car is rare doesn't mean it has to be instantly valuable. IMO that car is not worth 9k be it an ae86 jdm or not.

I drove past this car the other day, as just jap is about 5 mins from me, it looks alright... I'l take a closer look next week... alTho just jap have imported some pretty dodgy sprinters; ones full of rust, falling apart and so forth.
Cheers
