They are largely the same engine... they have the same computers to run them, same size injectors, same Yamaha head, block, internals, map sensor, etc... don't quite know about the throttle body size. I think all the throttle bodies are the same sizing on Gen III's (60mm), correct me if I'm mistaken.... tappet/rocker cover will be a different shape due to the water/air intercooler not being there. That's all I can think of for now...
Looking at dropping one in the Camry mate?

to take this a step further, what are the difference in gen3 when you go to ST215 adn St245?
i know the exhaust manifold and turbine housing are integrated, but can the exhaust manifolds be swapped between the series?
eg.

I'm pretty sure the ST215 exhaust manifold is the same as the Gen II/III heads, but I'm not so sure about the ST245... isn't that a Gen IV 3S? Could be different bolt patterns...

The 215 manifold will bolt up to the 205 head.
The 215 also has coil on plug ignition and OBD2 which would be nice.

As to the original question the main difference I can think of is the computers are different, the 205 computer runs the water to air setup, and the water necks for the cooling system are different.
I am sure there are other differences but they are the ones I can think of. You'd be better off with the MR2 setup in a Camry in my opinion since you'd wanty a MR2 turbo gearbox for a front wheel drive conversion anyway.

Woot. Anyone got a picture of this setup? Do they fit the 205?

Hi Andrew
GenII and GenIII are different to each other so if it does fit, it would only fit one of those Gens.

I don't know about fitting the Gen 3 but here's a pic
I ganked this from http://www.mr2oc.com/showthread.php?t=118051&h ighlight=caldina
If you have a bit of a search around on MR2OC you should find some info on setting up a coil on plug system using a MSD DIS4 and Yamaha R600 coils I believe it was.

That cam cover looks very simlar to the Gen3 so I dont see why the coils wont work. Obviously some holes will need to be drilled and tapped to hold the coils in, but this is no problem.
I'll check out that forum and see what I can find. Thanks mate

Im fairly certain that a motor from an MR-2 will have the alternator, powersteer pump and possibly A/C compressors on the wrong side of the block for the Celica. For a less painful Camry swap I'd stick with a motor from a Celica. I haven't seen this myself, but it might be worth finding out if you're planning a conversion.
