I know it is the 4A-GE non-Tvis engine that puts out 100kw but on which Corolla AE92 hatches is this engine in ?
Cheers!
Looking for a car around $5k would this be the best one to go for ?

That would be the SX and Gti Corolla's.
They are the Corolla's to get if you can find one in good condition as they tend to be driven by enthausiastic drivers

Is the SX a standard hatch corolla or is it only the 'seca' version ?

The SX model Corolla was available in both hatch and seca. So take your pick.

I presume the Seca was heavier ?
I cant seem to find many SX hatches but a lot of Seca SX's.

The seca was slightly heavier than the hatch, I think around 30kgs so not too much.
On the road I see a lot more seca's than hatches, they must have been more popular at the time.

Yes the Seca is heavier.
http://www.drive.com.au seems to think it is only 10kg heavier than the hatchbacks, but i would have thought it to be more. Furthermore, it states the SX models as 50kg heavier.
1991 SE Hatch: 1030kg (Note: 4A-FC engine)
1991 CS Seca: 1040kg (Note: 4A-FC engine)
1991 SX Hatch: 1080kg (Note: 4A-GE engine)
1991 SX Seca: 1090kg (Note: 4A-GE engine)
I have read elsewhere (on a personally run site) that the hatch has a kerb weight of 1015kg, and the Seca 1050kg, but as to which models, i don't know. In any case, the Seca is definitely heavier.
Regards,
Liam.

Remove the spare tyre, back seat and tools, that should make up the 10kgs

I am possibly also looking at buying an SX AE92. Depends on cash flows of course. But the cheapest one I've seen was a 1992 with 114000kms on the clock, fully standard for $7900! Crap! Another was $8000 for a lowered 1990 with 120k on it with 17" rims and tinited windows. So damn dear for and older car, but they are sporty little things. Hopefully I will get one soon. But there are very little AE92 SX hatches around. There's one I see parked all the time here on the coast. An SX limited. I want it!!!
