Getting the Engine year model from the engine number.

Is this possible? I'm hoping for a website of some kind where I can punch in my engine number and get all the year model and manufacturing details spat back to me... but that might be asking a little too much. Would my local toyota dealership be able to tell me what year my engine is if I give them an engine number?
Engine in question is an import.

You can get that info from the VIN number.

You could try ringing head office with the engine number and see what they can do.

For those interested:
Toyota don't record engine numbers apparently, so they have no way of telling what year an engine is from the engine number alone. However, there are two other accessories (starter motor & alternator) that they DO record the numbers for. So provided your accessories are original, you should be able to find out your engine age. My starter motor was definitely not original (had wrecker writing on it), however the alternator appeared original. According to the alternator, my engine is late 94/early 95. Hard to say for sure because sometimes the accessories are manufactured BEFORE the head and the block, and assembled later. At least I now know my engine isn't more than about 10 years old.

Are the coilpacks date stamped?
A lot of plastics on a motor have a month/year stamp on them, cast into the plastic.
You know your motor is at the most as old as the plastic.
