Sounds like your starter motor. Try tapping it with a hammer - just don't bash it.

Mine did... starter motor had died, and it sounds like yours has too

yeah i get a really nasty clicking sound on cold starts...
does that mean my starter motor is about to die?

Its usually either that or the battery. Mine started clicking and then eventually died. I pulled mine apart and made new brass bushings for it because the old ones were r00ted and didn't contact properly anymore
its been fine ever since!

You fixed yours? so i dont have to go buy a new one??
Buyin another one wouldnt be a problem but I have a new engine in perth ( i am currently in broome) with a new starter motor so i am not really wanting to buy a new one...

Depends how mechanically minded you are
Take it off, pull it apart and you should be able to diagnose thr problem. My guess is the trashed brass bushes... they're a common problem apparently
