4.5 ratio? Tue, 19 July 2005 04:45 Go to next message
Would a 4.5 ratio in a T18 diff fitted to an AE86 be too short for an sr20det conversion.?
Would the gear ratio's be too short for that setup?
Cheers

depends on the gearbox ratio aswell! prob a bit short for the street!if you want to sell the 4.5 i know someone that needs one. with any sort of higher boost youll be spinning 5th with a 4.5 which could be fun!

3.9 would be better, but 4.1 will be ok for keeping it going of boost etc.maybe instead of ratios they should have "spins to secound, spins to third, spins to four and i use the drivers door window to see were to go.

Through a T50 and a 3.9 diff, 100km/h is 3200rpm in 5th gear.

4.5 will therefore give you about 3700rpm at 100 (assuming the SR20 box has a similar 5th ratio to a T50).

Possibly a bit short in my opinion. Great for rally but maybe not great for road use.

However, with an SR20 in such a light car I doubt the diff ratio will matter too much, you'll have enough torque everywhere to do whatever you want to do.
