Takumi 's 4AGE

I've just finish watching the Hong Kong Initial D movie and I don't know if anyone else notice this. The engine in Takumi's AE86 is actually a red top and not blue top.
I guess someone must have swap the engine or is there a JDM ae86 that come with a redtop standard? a late model one maybe?
ok thats all I want to say.

yeah i noticed that too
And Toyota even built 3 BRAND NEW AE86s for this movie. They could've atleast used the big port motor.

that is an AE92 100 kw motor, with what looks to be a TVIS bigport manifold on it.
then again, identifying a motor by the cam covers isn't the most accurate method.

Can someone clarify this, what models/generation/years of 4AGE's had different dizzy caps? Are there aftermarket dizzy caps?
Because my dizzy cap looks alot different than that one.

Where the spark plugs go looks to be from a bluetop though...
on all the redtops i've seen the plugs are hidden by a plastic cover...

So how can it be a redtop if it's running an ae86's dizzy?

Toyota did not build any new cars for the movie.
if you take a look at the interior, it's shagged.
The GT APEX color scheme is meant to be hot red with dark brown.
In the movie, the seats have turned out that dreaded copper orange color.
If you take a look at the interior door handle on the door, the plastic has become brittle and cracked (the bit after natsuki gets on with takumi).
The exterior definitely looks like a respray, plus little bits of plastic here and there looks old.

So you can actually fit a bigport rwd inlet manifold to a smallport engine? I thought the engine in the pic might have been the last of the bigport model with stronger block. But then again I could be wrong.

I have two comments about the initial D movie -
Why do the subtitles tell me they say " 88 " when they leave...
I now say 88 to my housemate whenever i head out instead of seeya
my second comment - FEAR THE QUAKEPROOF.
God damn those subtitles were hilarious. It started to get really random like the translator was on drugs or got real bored halfway through. Having someone ramble on about a bloody WALK TO FRANCE or some crap to explain something and then them talking about when theyre going to acclerate past them and it translates into something roughly like "i shall release the brightness" WTF!!!
The movie had me in stitches in some points

I never got any of that... Mine was all pretty straight foward, there were a few jokes that got lost in translation but they didnt say 88 instead of bye...

I must have had some pretty whack subtitles then
but oh my god, it was funny as
Movie's pretty corny though, but I guess that comes with the territory.
wasn't too bad, i could think of worse movies to watch
Also, I was told that they did get toyota to make them a car?
So this is not true?

im guessing the motor is the later model ae82 TC verison
seeing as it has TVIS and as mentioned the spark plug lead tops on the smallport motor are covers

Hmmmmm I noticed the buttons...
Does anyone have a closer pic of it? What do the buttons actually do??? Does the unit have a fan in it too or only controls? Are they only a zenki item or found on kouki as well?
The GT-Apex I acquired is kinda missing the handbrake console thingy...

that engine = DEFINITELY bigport 4A-GE.
giveways = dissy cap, centre cover above spark plugs, coil/ignitor, etc etc....
more than likely that is like one of the latest model bigport 4age's which had the red lettering, bigport head and EFI system, and 7 rib block (without the much better crank/rods/pistons/oil squirters).
REdtop vs bluetop is a very inaccurate way to diferentiate.
