get a stick (arc) welder and weld together the sunwheels in the centre.

yeah what ma61 said. its very easy. just make the welds very large and solid. really just weld all the spider gears untill they all one piece. but id advise to having some spare axels on hand (i snapped one last night) and be prepared for quite a bit of road noise. if u really must have someone do it id say most diff shops would advise against this but if u just took the centre to someone that can weld theyd do it for a pretty small price. mate + carton + welder = much fun going round and round and round etc. haha good luck with it.

It helps to heat the centre up with an oxy first until it is pretty damn hot before welding.

i just locked the diff in my escort as i have done with lots of previous ones. much much fun to be had.... best thing is u can snap an axle and still drive off the good axle... (and experience 4th gear burnouts while driving along)
lots of people are scared of locked diffs but they're not that dangerous... in the wet on tight corners prolly need to be a bit careful but in the dry you don't even notice it... and it's much safer when going sideways coz it doesn't change between spinning one wheel and two....
anyway... do it and have fun!

you do need to be a lil more conservative with the clutch in the wet cause they do step to full lock quite easily

Yes, but you then hear the groaning and creaking noises from your diff, and you just know that it's not good.
Get an LSD.

sorry boys, locked diff on greasy public roads = fuckwit.
there is no reason or excuse for using one on sydney roads, and is illegal to boot...
when you drive thru maccas drivethru, the cops will easily spot you from the chirping...
if you must be fully sik on public roads, get an LSD..
or stop driving like an idiot perhaps?

Man, it'll cost you that much in replacement diff centers and axles over time when you keep breaking the standard ones all the time.
Been there done that, not doing it again
unless ofcourse it's for a paddock where grip doesn't occur anyway

Nothing wrong with a locker if your not an idiot. Period. It doesn't matter what the law says, and in my mind using 'the law' to justify anything is pointless since the law is always made for the lowest common denominator (ie fuckheads). Make sure to chip away all the loose welding dags etc, as they might come off and cause some damage. I've heard of people filling the centre with resin and other shit after welding to keep all the loose bits in place. (i think someone even filled their centre with concorete?? (not sure how that one turned out???)

law is the law for a reason, locked diff is not allowed because of many reasons - wet oily road conditions, driveline breakage, change in handling, dodgy weld jobs... etc which are dangerous to the driver and other drivers if the diff fails/breaks/affects handling.
i have also considered using one before but think it should be only used at the racetrack where the differential action is more limited or offroad 4x4.
you can also get solid replacement centres that provide the lock for quite a few cars, air lockers etc
