Hi,

They were called The Flowers before they were Icehouse and used to do the local pub circuits, where they did a lot of old 70's covers.

Often at Caringbah Inn or the Sylvania Hotel there would be a couple of "Saturday Night" bands like The Flowers, Cold Chisel or the Oils.... all before they became big and left the pub scene.

River your ancient! Laughing

They defintely have a signature sound and i respect that, generally the sign of a good act. In this respect i would hold them up against acts like Underworld, Hybrid, Infusion, U2, REM, etc. A very timeless sound...

They were called The Flowers before they were Icehouse

Actually, they were just "Flowers" - see I can show my age too!

I remember seeing them when they were the Flowers at Bexley North. I remember going to see a band a few weeks later called INXS. They were abysmal. They got booed off the stage.

Cheers, Greg.

My first ever music purchase was a tape of the "Man of Colours" album with (supposedly) rare black cover. Brings back such memories of Iva's halting lyrical styles! "I can see...see through these tears...tears of a man...a man of .. colours".

Oddly enough my brother's (who is a bogan metal headbanger)first music buy was the LP of "Whispering Jack". Even my low street cred Icehouse shat all over that for hipness.

Crikey... my first ever music purchase if I remember correctly were two 45rpm vinyl singles, "Eloise" by Barry Ryan and I also bought "Eleanor" by the Turtles. My first tape was the "Gasoline Alley" album by Rod Stewart.

I also got a copy of "The Hurdy Gurdy Man" by Donovan, but I'm pretty sure that was my mums. She used to pack the water pipe and her and dad would put on some Donovan where they'd dance and sing and get totally blithered.

My first ever record was a 45 as well. It was Whole Lotta Love. On the B side is Living Loving Maid.
Still got it too.

Cheers, Greg.

Hell river I thought you'd have bought 78's as your first album. Maybe some Al Jolson hits?

Ho ho ho... aren't you a cunny funt, eh? Smile

No, I got some old Edison wax rolls. 78's are far too advanced for me.

Actually, truth be told, I do have a number of 78s in my collection. Not sure if Al-baby is one of them though. I don't have anything to play them on any way - my turntable only does 33 and 1/3 and 45s.
