Clutch slave cylinder woes. Sat, 23 July 2005 10:14 Go to next message
I took the RA28 around to Kev's (EVOSTi) place on Friday so he could do some work on it for me. One of the jobs was replacing the clutch slave cylinder. It has been leaking for quite a while now so I thought he may as well whip it off and replace it.
We took it to a few parts places out Campbelltown and no one had any in stock. We couldn't even actually identify what model it is exactly. The Celica has a 3TGTE and an unknown gearbox. We took the cylinder to a specialist clutch place and they couldn't even id it looking through their old parts books. They put a couple of new seals in it to at least get me out of Kev's driveway and back home.
The only thing I know about the box is that the previous owner described it as an "alloy split case" box. He wasn't sure where it was sourced from. Kev has a sneaking suspicion it may be an import Sprinter box. The slave cylinder is located on the driver side of the box and apparently it's normal for them to be on the passenger side.
Does anyone know where I could take it to in Sydney, to be at least identified, if not replaced?
I'm gonna (if the old bones allow me to) slide under the car and take it off again tomorrow, so I'll take a piccie of it if anyone's interested.

Cheers, Greg.

Yeah, the Clutch place said they could send it to somewhere in Tamworth to get re-sleaved. Apparently no one in Sydney can do that job so they're all sent up to Tamworth.
It'd take about 3 days all up. That's what I'll do if I can't source one earlier.

Yeah we are going through the exact same thing here.
The slave cyl in the GF's Starlet GT is leaking bad. But luckly there is an engineering place down the road that can rebuild it better than new for $60.

Alloy split case sounds very much like A T50. Bolted to a 3T with the slave on driver's side it is most likely a Celica or T18 box. Try comparing your clutch slave with that listed for a TA22 Celica. You may find that they're the same.

Good luck

Hey dude, I have been having problems with my slave cylinder too as I have a custom bellhousing. I went to Bert Bros. to get a slave resleeved as it was a different bore to the one originally on the old 'box, and they said the same thing, it get's sent to another place in Sydney, then upto Tamworth. A guy at my old man's work located this guy, bear in mind he's in Wollongong, but boy does he know his stuff. I went down there yesterday, and straight away he pulled out a salve cylinder exactly the same as the new one I'm using, but with the correct bore to suit the rest of my system like the old slave. Cost me $50, and the guy also gave me and my old man a guided tour of his workshop, I've got to say I was pretty impressed, I know I'll be going back there to get my brake lines and all that shit.

Here's his details, give him a ring and I reckon he should be able to help you out.

Wollongong Brake Smart,
55 Montague Street, Fairy Meadow,
NSW, 2519.

4226 4911, ask for Peter Temple.

Good luck dude. Smile

good work with the contact Smile

yeah the box definately looks like a T50, but the only T50's i have experience with are the aus spec one previously in the sprinter and the jap spec T50 mated to the 4age in my gf's ta22, so i was unaware if any other aus delivered one had the cylinder on the drivers side.

the bore is fubar, and getting it re-sleaved for around the $60 mark aint too bad, but it would be nice to know what it came from for future reference.

Well, the riddle has been solved. The gearbox and slave cylinder is off a TA23.
Went to Celica Spares at Wetherill Park. They knew what it was.

Cheers, Greg.
