3sgte Coolant temps..? Mon, 25 July 2005 09:38 Go to next message
hey all, for a while (well since my engine swap 3sgte into ST184)
i think its running too cold..
accourding to my autometer gauge (which has sensor in top hose) its only running at 125 fahrenheit, which is about 51 celsius..
and that even in the summer, the other day (sunday ) it got to about 150 fahrenheit,or 65 celsius..? and on both accounts the factory gauge dont move..!!! it just stay in the middle of the table..
Whats is it meant to run at .?
should i change the thermostat..?

yep change your thermostat.. its stuck open.

It should open at 82degrees, so your engine temp (once warm) shouldn't vary too far from there.

Yep, it should be running warmer than that. But If your factory guage is reading half way and you autometer is only reading about 50-60degrees than one of them is wrong..

Do your thermo fans turn on?

Are your thermos working properly? Did you use the 3sgte sensor that was in the bottom of the rad?

Yep, i was actually running the GT4 rad and sensor with my stock 5s engine, and then fitted the 3SGTE...
would it depend on the location of the sensor, i was thinking of putting in the actual housing at rear of head..?

I have my 3S-GTE running at similar temps. I have the 71°C TRD thermostat in mine, and last I checked it was functioning correctly. My thermo-fans run fulltime from ignition to shut-off. I also need to replace my thermo switch because I don't have one currently. Confused
