Hi all,
I am in the process of converting my '88 ST162 3S-GE to the more powerful genII 3S-GTE. I have read all round the internet but everyone seems to be saying different things.
I purchased the ST185 front cut and have all the Turbo accessories ie front mount, boost controller etc etc but my biggest concern is the gear box and the drive shafts.
On hand I have 2 standard 3S-GE gear boxes. Question time-
-Is there a more suitable gear box I should be using?
- How do you all think the standard box and shafts will hold up if I don't overly thrash it?
-The 3S-GE is a lot more powerful than the 3S-FE and already has stronger CV's etc but are they strong enough?
Any help is appreciated guys

you wont be able to use the st162 gearbox without modifying it so the starter motor is on the other side of where it mounts. you will also need a new starter cause it will have to spin the other way, you are better off sourcing an MR2 3sgte box and starter (very hard to find and very expensive). for a cheaper alternative you can try to source a camry gearbox from the SV21. not as strong but will do the trick. in either case you should be able to use your drive shafts.
good luck
Karl
