I belive 4ages can be chipped, just depends on who and where you get it from, eg. powerchip, chip torque, or i think you can get your ECU remapped, power increase depends on what modifications you have, stock with jsut a chip not that much, maybe 7-14kw at the fly using 98 octane.

i don't know but if you try searching for this "unichip Sydney price Toyota" in Google you get a few different answers.

There are probably cheaper ways of getting power improvements - e.g. induction, zorst, 2nd-hand aftermarket ECU

I think you're being a little optomistic with 7-14kW just from tweaking the mixtures and timing a little, where'd you get those figures from?

Your best starting point would be the exhaust/intake route, your standard ecu will cope just fine with the increased flow from that.

What makes you think, for an unmodified engine, that the maps toyota programmed would be that far off optimum that a bit of tweaking would release that much power?

There may be a slight de-tuning for reliability, but i wouldn't have thought there would've been any more than a couple of kW's on offer from a chip that is mass produced. They tend to just throw in a bit extra fuel and a bit of timing.

Proper programmable management and dyno tuning will achieve more, but not until your standard computer can't keep up. Do exhaust and intake first to get it breathing better.

check out powerchip, they claim a proven increase in power up to 14kw using 98 octane, and this is at the engine and not the wheels, personally i wouldn't know how much a 4age would increase, but with my 3sge tuning the fuel mixtures and ignition timing on my piggy back comp made approx. 17kw at the wheels, so i believe its possible to gain about 7-14kw at the fly with just a chip. But others may have their own opinions.

Hey, if you got that sort of result, nice work. A lot of that would've been from tuning the piggyback to your particular car. If you just buy a produced 'chip' and plug in i don't think it'll gain as much, but i'm just guessing, if you've got results i'll stand corrected.

I reckon you shold run a piggy back computer Manzy...
Its probably about the same price as a chip, and good things about it is that you can always tune it again after you have done work to your engine.

There are plenty of piggy back computer you can choose from
I guess a good one will be the Greddy E-manage.
Or the Buddy Club Black Box.
Both you can get English version for... and I think they range from around 699 to a grand, depends who you get it off.

Or you can go for a complete computer re-map.
Cusco in Japan does it... but thats starting to get expensive...

Or if you want to go full out with your ECU option...
There is Freedom - comes with self learning function..... so no tuning is require.. but you can still tune it.

Apexi - direct plug in... no wiring again.

and all the other complete ECU... Haltech, Microtech and Motec, etc.
I would recommend Motec if you are going for a complete computer upgrade.

Check out www.powerchip.com.au if you want to see their results, its actually around 7-10kw at the fly for those 4age corrollas, different to 3sge's, but anyway thats their claim, but i've been doing plenty of research and from my experience i've made more power from tuning the ECU rather then intake and exhaust mods, especially for N/A cars.

Yeah it would be cheaper to probably run a JDM ECU cause you would then have to run higher octane levels and you would get that slightly more agressive mapping increasing the power.

dont waste yr money on chippoin ecus

i have seen in the past all they do is make u use more fuel and very little performance and some of them cost close to 500 to 1000 for the job

Get a second hand Mircotech and have it tuned by a bro, then it can be changed easily to suit any future mods Smile
