Tyres for ma61 Wed, 27 July 2005 21:04 Go to next message
I need some tyres for my ma61. I currently have standard 7JJ wheels w/- Bridgstone Eager 340's: 225/60R14 front, 245/60R14 rear. Any suggestions for replacement tyres that fit the std wheel? Any photos?

I couldn't post a photo of my ride... i've looked at FAQ & still can't do it?

WTF is it with MA61's and Bridgestone Eagers? Rolling Eyes

Your options are pretty limited if you want 225/60x14. Maybe you'd better tell us your budget and what sort of performance (if any) you expect from your tyres.

Yokohama A509?

From website
"Legendary leader in sports design

The A509 is a proven performer, offering high speed stability, crisp steering response and cornering power. Its helical tread design pumps away water in wet conditions and the tread compound delivers tenacious grip for enhanced traction, as well as excellent tread wear and durability."

I used to have A509's and they were great, however when I bought them they were a discontinued line and that was 2 years ago! Good luck finding a set now.

As far as I know now, they are remaking them Smile in 225/60R14. Went to a tyre place and its for $150 each.

If that's the case, the A509's are the way to go. Definitely several steps above Bridgestone or BF Goodrich crap. They're pretty soft so won't last as long as some, but the grip is just awesome... I had trouble breaking traction when they were new even with upwards of 300rwhp!

ive got eagers one one supra and yoko a509s on the other. (only bought the yokos about a month ago)

the eagers look better, but the a509s are quiter and handle a heap better. plus the eagers are shit in the wet.

when the eagers die, ill get sumitomos i think, just to try something different..

I had sumitomos on the rear of mine, they worked quite well, not that great in the wet though.

My budget is $750/$800. Performance reqd is anything that handles the same Confused or better Smile than the Eagers in the wet (it is really hairy driving on roads with tram tracks in the inner suburbs). I still want the white writing on the tyre wall... do any of the sumi's/yoko's/bf's have this?

Mad Mad Mad

White writing is for aging bogans in rusty Trans Ams. Please don't turn a perfectly good Supra into a laughing stock!

Slightly OT, but I have a pair of near new Eager 235/60s that were... you guessed it... on my Ma61 rims when I bought them Wink

I thought the yoko 509 got superseeded by the 539. FWWI I currently have Toyos (forget the model), nice tyres but I believe I bought some of the last ones in Aus. Will have a lot more choice when I put my 16"s over my brake upgrade Very Happy.
