well, i haven't seen any driving around here.. and none of the 10 or so toyota showrooms i went to Wink have one either...
if i do see one, i'll _try_ and ask for pics Razz
chances of finding one in a wrecker are virtually nil. (but of course you knew that anyway)

(edit: i did get a price sheet tho.. no glossy brochures unfortunately)

yeah i figured that after i read the thread...

however upon looking at the thread originally I thought it was talking about a supercharged 1G (1G-FZE) and the guy had just made a typo...

Forgot all about the V12 engine! Interesting...

The way it is going I think you'll be waiting another 10 or so years for them to come in under the 15 year import rule Razz

oldcorollas: If at all possible can you gather a list of the auction houses that deal in both trade-in type vehicles and damaged vehicles as you come accross them? The one that have a web site... I have found a few but it is hard to search for Japanese sites. Maybe start a thread with that title?

For starters

As you can see, front sump, vvti on exhaust cam, FE head, timing chain, long intake runners, poor exhuast manifolds, twin TB's, quite similar setup to 1uz re: accessory mounting

my fav so far (and fairly comprehensive) is
http://www.goo-net.com/cgi-bin/goojp/used/maker_se arch_w.cgi?baitai=goo&maker_cd=1010

unfortunately it is in japanese, but it is relatively easy to translate the names of the cars as they are all in Katakana...

http://www.japanorama.com/images/katakana.gif

se ri ka
ka ru di na etc..
se n chi yu ri ~

tick the boxes of the cars you want to look at (many have multiple models), then hit the arrow button at bottom of page.. then select the box that ticks all the boxes (is the area) etc etc...

this site is more for registered cars/registerable... as for auction houses, it's a bit more tricky as only buyers can buy there, and the lists are not always published on the net...
there are massive magazines with cars for sale too. that seems to be a more popular method of selling

actually, on goonet there are 134 centuries for sale atm!! here's one
most exxy, 170km travelled! this years model..
http://www.goo-net.com/cgi-bin/goojp/used/spread_n _w.cgi?goo_car_id=0110050802B4002929006&areacd =13&maker_cd=1010&car_cd=10101001&PRIC E_SORT=desc&baitai=goo&sort_flag=price_sor t&car_cd_list=10101001&search_type=maker_s earch

and the cheapest
28 Man yen (280000yen = about AUD$3500)
http://www.goo-net.com/cgi-bin/goojp/used/spread_n _w.cgi?goo_car_id=0150050901F4003745004&areacd =16&maker_cd=1010&car_cd=10101001&bait ai=goo&sort_flag=price_sort&car_cd_list=10 101001&search_type=maker_search

hmm, heisei 1.... it's heisei 17 now, so this car is at least 15 years old...
and about AUD$2500.. and should be fine to import under 15 year rule?
oh, it's a 4L..

mm pimpin...
http://www.goo-net.com/cgi-bin/goojp/used/spread_n _w.cgi?goo_car_id=0120050802C4001343001&areacd =15&maker_cd=1010&car_cd=10101001&NENS HIKI_SORT=asc&baitai=goo&sort_flag=syear_s ort&car_cd_list=10101001&search_type=maker _search

hmm, the 5L started in Heisei 9... start at around $25K, and quickly go up from there.. $30-50K seems a reasonable bracket...

so are the 1GZFE's that much different from the BMW 750/850 5L V12? (apart from the obligatory cabin fires and dual ECU)? cheaper and easier to source methinks.. since they burn up often Wink

Don't these engines have pretty low compression? Which would be tasty for adding some form of forced induction.

BMW = 2 valve per cylinder, SOHC (per bank), some wacky rocker arm valve activation mechanism, 3 ECUs (one per bank and one to oversee the two ECUs).
Realy, really, really exxy to rebuild - no readily available non genuine bits for them.

That said, I would do one of those up than play with some abortional Jag anchor.

Clicky linky.

And you expect to walk into Repco and pick up a pair of 2mm copper head gasket to suit a 1GZ-FE ?

As if you'd consider a 1GZ-FE build without having a substantial budget to do it properly. 2mm copper gaskets indeed. Razz

<lol @ 2mm copper HG's>
Laughing

Do it the PROPER way....
bolt on the intake volume enhancers and continue to increase intake absolute pressures until such time the engine breaks. Replace said broken bits with BIGGER/BETTER bits and increase intake absolute pressure even MORE.

Mr 1JZ - your take on engine builds is interesting...

how much would a set of custom pistons/rods/etc cost for such a motor?

the only reason I would do a 1GZFE is if it could be done on the cheap becuase there are no real super advantages to it, except for the fact its rare as fuck, it would sound completely spastic and its a V12...

if it were going to cost $25 grand to build as a twin turbo engine reliably id rather do it with a 1UZ....becuase you would end up making the same power, much cheaper....

Custom pistons are around the $250 each for one offs.

and rods are similar.. ish?

so $500 per bore x 12 = $6K just for pistons and rods..

think customs 4cyl build then multiply by 3. a V12 is never going to be "cheap" ...
