yes...
pedal box and clutch master for hydraulic clutch
ae71 or ae86? engine crossmember and engine brackets
gearbox crossmember
22-spline tailshaft
T50 transmission from ae71 or ae86 only
new fuel hoses for efi and high pressure fuel pump
surge tank and lift pump if poss.
new exhaust (or at least splice the two together)

No, it's not hard, I've done similar before and I'm really pretty stupid.

all you blokes think to much and obviosly havent dont that conversion if the ke70 came with any 4a motor all you need to do is bolt it in no fancy crossmembers or andthing you just lower it in and bolt it in to the standard mounts then get sumone to wire it up not hard at all as long as you are mech minded you wont have a drama. good luck

Re: 4AGE ---> KE70 Tue, 02 August 2005 02:30 Go to previous messageGo to next message
ke70's came with a 4k motor, and by the looks of things the 4k bell housing is different and so is the crossmember...

the ae71 is pretty much a ke70 with a 4ac + t50
i have bought a 4age that was in a ke70, the running gear had been replaced with ae71 struts with ae86 disk brakes, a ae86 crossmember, ae86 steering rack & t18 rear end. im pretty sure it had a t50 of somekind (not sure from a ae71 or ae86), anyways its all been replaced...

i dont see how a k50 will fit the 4a unless someone has done it before or modded the k50 bellhousing or something, such a small gearbox Confused

i had a 1985 ke70 with a hydraulic clutch in it, but i have seen some with the old skool wire version in older ke70s (82-83)

The KE70 did not come with an A motor. K in KE70 denotes K motor which uses different crossmember, transmission, cable clutch in place of hydraulic, and other differences.

I have done an engine conversion in my KE70 and do understand what is involved. Your advice reflects the fact that you don't really know what you're talking about.

Thanks for replying with some decent, useful answers.

I did use the search function and found out that more than just a crossmember is needed for the conversion.

My guess is that the total cost would be between $1500 - $2000. (?)

I was thinking about just converting to a bigger engine from the K series... 5K (1.5L or 1.6L?) or 7K (1.8L or 2L?)... but would the time and $ be worth it? I was quoted $300 - $400 for a 5K and $1300 for an EFI 7K (i was told this 1 is 2L).

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Scott

7K is 1.8L (ahh google is a wonderful thing)

block is wider and deeper than the 5K, so 7K may not bolt in

Don't confuse wreckers with mechanics. I don't even trust mechanics, and wreckers are often those who came up short on the intelligence and skills to be mechanics.
