oh id love to convert it to manual, but i really need this car on the road as fast as possible, and this is the quickest option.
so the auto i have refernced is just like any other gearbox that hooks up to the 3sfe camry? starter motor will be no prob.

the 3sfe gear ring/flywheel is larger than the 3sge one, so the starter teeth wont touch it, so essentially you couldnt run the starter motor on the outside, you would have to use the 3sge starter in its original position.
and i dont think the VZV21 will fit on the 3S block, its a different layout, i think the bell housing would have to be changed to make it work, and then you may have to custom up some CV shafts, BIG JOB.

ok, i just purchased a 3sfe auto gearbox. can someone please just break down what i need to do in regards to installing it? well i realise the celica 3sge starter motor runs in a DIFFERENT direction, so if i used that, would it spin in the wrong direction or something?
i realise there is heaps of info on this and i have searched, but i read something different depending on what thread i get up.
if possible...can someone please tell me the easiest way to hook up a 3sfe gearbox to a 3sge engine, what mods/altercations need to be made etc. and yes, i have the starter motor off the camry motor.
thankyou for any help, itll be nice to finally drive round in a nice car...
ps...dude that sucks about the defect...

Nick,
You said the starter "packed in", what actually happened? did it sound like the battery was flat? Did it make no noise at all when you tried to start it?.
Here are some suggestions...
Have you made sure all your ground cables are conected, and that the battery is charged?
Did you make sure your high tension lead is connected (from the coil to the distributor)?
Did you make sure the ignition wire is swiching?
Do you have an aftermarket starter relay, if so did you make sure it was swiching, and connected
Did you try running a jumper lead from the positive terminal to the "power bolt" on the starter? BE CAREFUL doing this.
Did you try push starting the car (if its manual)?
Hope that helps

cheers for that man !!!
well i did all those ideas, except for the dodgy one yesterday arvo, no luck.
so this morning i replaced the starter, and threw my battery in , still no luck.
threw in my mums battery and it went first go !!! sooo my battery is stuffed, but i think the battery was also rooted , because yesterday i tried jump starting it, with my battery, and still no noises at all !! not even the click click click.
so i am gonna go pick up a new battery today !! havent got much dosh atm, so i am gonna get a k-mart exide or something !!!

jonchai, if you don't have aircon have you actually removed the compressor and running a different belt? If so how hard was it to find a non a/c belt for one of these? Interested in finding out because I don't use my a/c and it needs regassing anyway.

Ey all,
I am getting a set of focal 6" splits, now they are 7.2cm deep, has anyone ever mounted speakers of similar size in the doors of the celica?
I would be very interested in any design you have come up with.
Cheers fellas

you'll probably have to cut out some of the lower door bucket thing and mabey get a set of those 6" mounts and glue/mould them in maybe even paint them. not sure how deep it is behind there (i'm thinking in bottom left corner)
its gonna be tricky might wanna get a set of old celica interiors to practice on maybe??

Oh, I thought all celica's came with a/c well there you go.
7.2 hmm, not sure if you can mount them flat with that much depth, even with the angled pods and a set of spacers my 6 inch pioneer speakers still intrude into the door trim, so no matter what a hole in that is gauranteed for deep speakers. To mount them flat you will have to cut some of the door. This is what the previous owner thought would be wise to do for some 4 inch splits. He didn't even do a good job at it.
Although I'm not sure if your 6" speakers will be clear of the window or not for a flat install.

Mine did come with aircon, and no, i never used it, so when it came to regassing, i couldnt be stuffed and decided to remove the entire setup to further reduce weight.
you have to remove the compressor if you dont want AC coz the different sized belt will cross the compressors path. also, you'll need a different pully/tensioner. but otherwise, twas a fairly stright forward jobby.

Im gonna keep it on the other coz i think its time for some creature comforts

My fmic fits and my a/c is in and running. i think your biggest problems would be that (oil/water?) cooler that the st165's have. (i remember seeing a pic of it on your car Jorrs)
Are those things for the wta intercooler or is that the oil cooler?
Anyways, i'd definately stick with the wta over a topmount ata anyday!
IF you could find a groupA st185 wta, that would be a nice upgrade.
p.S if your wta is stuffed, theres one on ebay atm.

Id say i front mount would fit, not a very fat one tho. I removed my AC more so for air flow and wieght reduction than for my front mount going in next week
I can sell you my old st185 intercooler if you want, i doubt it's gonna help you much but you can have it for $40.
The way my car use to be setup, the A/A intercooler got shit all air flow since the bonnet scoop didn't really direct the air through the intercooler.
