Does any one know what the pressure plate clamp pressure for an 18rg is?

also 18rc(would be intresting to compare)

ALSO

if you have a 18rgT/Z(e) what clamp pressure does your plate have... is it enough? any slippage?

Thanks

I think you'll find no-one knows. When people build a serious 18R-G the OEM clutch is usually far from adequate so they get a custom clutch built with lots of clamp. This is certainly what I'll be doing with my 18R-GTE.

Thanks norbie. what i have been able to find out is the 18R-C motor produces approx 106ft/lb torque and the 18R-G (E)approx 130ft/lb under normal conditions.
However my situation is far from normal as im mating the 18rgeu motor with a kombi box using a VW flywheel modified to suit 18rg, WV clutch and pressure plate. There is a company that makes High Performance clutches for VW (via USA) at a cost$$$. What i've been trying to determine is wether or not an "off the shelf" Heavy Duty VW pressure plate with 25-40% greater clamp force is enough to contain torque that the 18rg will/does produce... considering the clutch surface area is smaller also
So far the answer is yes... right up untill i add a Z or T to the 18rgeu, then its off to USA for a proven high performance clutch and pressure plate

Cheers
phill

when i got my car with the 18RC in it, the clutch had approx 60,000k on it, i didnt change it, now it has approx 70-80,000k on it behind my 18RG, it NEVER slipped, except for once when i slipped it off the line at the drags and it had a small slip from 1-2 shift

I suggest you go to a clutch specialist and tell them what you want, they'll be able to make whatever you need. The 18R-G isn't exactly a torque monster so you won't need anything special.
