1jz into vk

Hey guys,
been on the commodore form but thought I would get more help here about the 1jz conversion. I was considering an RB25 then discovered that the 1jz comes stock with twin-turbo's has more stock power then the RB and an auto half cut will be cheaper then a RB engine package. Although with all the custom parts (mounts, sump, X-member, tailshaft) it may all add up anyways...
Will any of the VL items work with the 1jz conversion?
LSD 3.45:1 diff?
VL fuel tank?
VL k-fram?
Any extra info would be appreciated
Here is a link of the half-cut

Cheers.

yes this has been done before, but i reccomend you dont do it. WHy not go an rb30 bottom end with rb20 head? It will make a lot of power with the right hardware (turbo etc) and the stuff from a VL is interchangeable isnt it??

Quite simple really.
It will cost alot more than a 1JZ conversion
And a stock RB30 will p00h itself at 300rwkw which a 1JZ will happily cope with.

I would be opting for a 1j over an rb30DET also. Will be a lot cheaper having a stock engine.
I don't see why you couldn't use a VL diff. Just have to get a tailshaft to suit. Fit the yoke from the halfcut onto custom tailshaft and you are set.
I would think the same for the fuel tank. I assume you would use a Vl one because it is EFI. The options are to install a higher flow in tank fuel pump or use the stock VL pump to surge tank and bigger external fuel pump. Either way it is a good idea to upgrade fuel pump.

lol quote from one of those links
in your case?
1. hire car trailer
2. tow vk to nearest qualified mechanic
3. return trailer
4. go home and wait for phonecall
5. return to above mechanic with blank cheque.
6. sign cheque.
7. drive home and do skidz
8. dont die..
told you it was a pretty easy conversion
this quote could be used alot during school holidays and such.

Post a photo of you standing next to a VK and a 1JZ frontcut and we might take you seriously. Otherwise, I call troll.

There is a few thing id like to comment on in this thread.
firstly to answer your question.
YES all vk stuff is interchangable with vl stuff, they share the same floorpan and are basically the same car with exception to he front guards and radiator support panel.
Rb20 heads will NOT bolt upto a rb30 block,rb25(with minor mods) and rb26 will.
An rb30 making 300rwkw will not shit its self. They are extremely strong and should never be under estimated. The only downfall is the heads become restrictive at high revs but they make shitloads of power under 5000rpm anyway. My last sohc rb30 made 250rwkw with ease with only a cam and springs uptop to help the flow. The only reason it didnt make more was that the t04b turbo ran out of puff.
Just because something has 2 turbo's doesnt mean its better than something with 1.The factory turbo plumbing of a 1jz is extremely complicated and i think is a major pain in the ass.
likewise with the exhaust.Dont forget the exhaust of a 1jz is on the same side as the steering in a commodore.its gonna be a tight squeeze down there!
I recommend using a vl crossmember and bolting a rb25 straight in(yes it all fits)and you will be a very happy camper:)

I think everyone knew I'd pipe up eventually?
RB20: toughish, easy to fit, reasonably priced (sometimes!), but need to be treated brutally to go like they should - i.e. they rev out alright, but don't have a lot down low. Not good for doing skidz...
RB25: generally overpriced, and will toss a rod/munch a piston once you start making reasonable power with them unless you rebuild them. And still a bit light own at low RPM.
RB26: I'll mention price and say no more?
RB30: Not likely without a rebuild - any examples you find now are just too damned old, and turbo ones are overpriced anyway.
1JZ: If a fool like me can shoehorn one into an XF, I doubt a VK is gonna be too hard... Do it! Others have done it before and can offer advice on engine mounts etc. Plus you'll be forced to show it to me when you're done...
2JZ: Definately do it if you can find one at the right price.

mate im doin the conversion at the moment. trust me i did detailed research from rb to 5ltr v8 to 1j. 1j's are fairly cheap, and absolutely shit on the rb. and there is so much room in the vk its not funny. i have mounted mine and there is so much room in the gbox tunnel i can basically hug the box. if you have a efi 202 then you dont need a tank or pump cause its all there already. the vk has 3 different gox mount spots you just use one of them. i just flipped over the vk gbox support and had the holes drilled (easy) and then mount your motor from there, you can slide the motor with the gbox attached straight in theres so much room. the only place there is no room is around the steering column. the rear turbo comes extremely close and the exhaust has to be squeezed passed. Mine was out of a chaser jzx81. i have a rebuilt 4.4 ration LSD 10 bolt salisbury i picked up 750 from the trader. dont rush anything as bargains come and go as you put it together. just cant wait to drop in the fat front cooler and drag a skyline with my 1j in a car that weighs 12ookg

But RB25s are gay. 1JZ are heaps better. plus you get rid off all that "pain in the ass plumbing" when you change turbos anyway. esp if your after 300kw+
IIRC RB25s are a larger engine in physical size then 1JZs.

lol@fully sik, but im not joking, they are great engines. the combo is rb25 stocko motor, custom exhaust manifold made by me,gt35r turbo@25psi,external gate, big fuel system, cooler, exhaust.
it makes power in an amazing fashon and simply trashes the tires in any gear at any speed.
has run 11.7@117 with the 5 speed/3.45:1 diff and crossed the line still in 3rd gear.we are fitting a 4.11:1 diff and hope to hit the 10's

And RB's rip teh best skidz anyone knows that...
Thing is, a couple of people I know with boosted Skylines (i.e. fulsik cooler, ECU, injectors, exhaust, bigger turbo, etc.) are making quite reasonable power, but they only seem to last for a short time before they're getting an engine rebuilt/another wrecker engine. Seems to be the nature of the beast.
But who am I to say, let's see some of the ultimate JZ vs RB battle on the dyno, and the dragstrip!

Oh hell yes! I'll bring one of the JZ's, get it producing, say, 10% more power than the 4K flat out, and see who's still going in the morning
Then we'll hit the dragstrip!

Actually, it would be kind of fascinating to put my long suffering old 4AG up against an equally well loved old 4K, stick them on an engine dyno, get them going for all they're worth, and see which one falls over first.
But I think we have digressed slightly from the topic!

Sounds like a very similar setup to SICO1J except his is obviously a 1j not an rb25. Has made 404rwkw on stock internals. AFAIK hasn't been to the strip at that power level though.
