Hi, i thought this would be a good way for all us camry owners to get together and shoot the breeze about all things camry. Now it doesn't matter what year, model, shape, engine size, mods are done, just aslong as it's a camry. I have and i'm sure many of you have been looking for places which sell performance bits and pieces, aswell as kits etc, with very little luck. So let's pull resources and help everybody and just have general chat and share info about all things camry...
Me, i own a dead stock 1996 Toyota Vienta (VCV10R), V6 (3VZ), 5 speed manual, Storm grey in colour, 12 stack Pioneer CD player. It's been the first Toyota i have ever owned and been able to drive. My first attempt was a ST162 GT2 Celica which is now owned by sleeker162, here on the forum

Got any new cardigans lately ?
A must have for the dedicated Camry enthusiast.
I don't think the Camry is really popular on Toymods.
Can't dorift in a FWD after all.
Seriously I've had 3 camrys and I lurve them.
Currently got a '00 V6 Conquest Wagon.
Cheers
T.

My cardigan is at the dry cleaners, with my lawn bowl hat.
Honestly it's the first time i have ever driven a camry, and i think it's great.
I know that camry's are not the most popular car here, but i think we should have our own place aswell. After all, after spending some $$$ they can be quite a potent street driven weapon. I hope over the next few years to prove it .

What some people don't understand is the dedicated threads don't need to be made sticky, because people are posting in them all the time, therefore they will always be bumped around up the top of the thread listing anyhow.
Have a happy posting camry owners

Well, there's always THAT too....
But I'm not in a business to bag out other's choice of cars. The one camry I drove was terrible, that doesnt mean however that their camrys that these people own are terrible.
More power to them for having and modding a car which others see as a waste of time.
I'm sure with some suspension mods and a 3S-GTE something like an SV21 would go pretty damn hard....
I say hurrah.

Hey, this isn't supposed to be the bitching thread. So take it else where .
Merudo, you hit the nail right on the head. Camry owners are often left out, because it's a car that most people simply do not see any sort of modifying worth. It's pretty frustrating, when you are trying to build a nice looking, performance enhanced family car, and you are very limited, because even manufacturers think camry's are a waste of time .
Yeah, sure some people choose a supra or a corolla, so be it, that what makes the modified car scene so great, a little word is 'DIVERSITY'.

It states on the compliance plate VCV10R-########## and on the other plate it says XV10. So if you can make out what it means, please tell me. Build date Sept 96.

i can definatley say that camry's can be fun. before i got my st162, i was drivin around in a blue 88 model with the 3sfe in it and 5 speed. The alternator was fucked in it and sounded like a turbo winding up when you gave it heaps . Still i used to be able to blow smoke off the tires all through second gear and it pulled it's fair share of handbraikies!
dont dis camry's, they may lack personality, speed and looks, but it was a damn lot more comfy than a lot of my mates late 80's rides and used to use half as much petrol as them as well!

Yes us Camry and Avalon drivers need to band together. Get our bowling hats out and unite (insert passionate pro-camry speech here).
I dont know about mods being a completely lost cause (Supercharging), I acutally see a really nice lowered white avalon with full bodykit in the Newcastle area.
And besides camry's arent that bad their a lot worse cars together and my Avalon can smoke AU Falc's and VT commo's.
Good to see im not completely on my own anyway

No mate, your not alone. And yes we should all band together, to get a store that will try and source performance parts for our camry's. I have never driven a camry until i bought the vienta i have now, and i have driven a wide range of cars from GT4 Celicas, through to GTR skylines, to old school monaros and falcons, and i mustsay, the camry would be up there with one of the best cars i've driven. It handles the road well, quiet, smooth, roomy. It does lack some power from other cars, but it's a very under estimated car.
Here's a car some of you may be familiar with and yes it's a camry...

I am thinking about buying an sv21 for a daily driver as I would like something with a/c and p/s for the upcoming summer.
My parents have an auto one that just seems to keep on going. It drives fairly well and the only real work that has been done is the cv's, suspension and auto recondition. It drives very nicely on the highway at about 2800 - 2900rpm.
I was wondering if anyone would like to comment on their manual sv21? Or if they have driven both, which do you prefer? How long do clutches last?
Opinions would be great

Oh the cvs thats what i need to fix now, but you can expect it after 380,000 ks, the clutches last for ages, i have done many a dump clutch and burnout and the clutch lasted over 2 years.
The auto camry is slow, anyone that drives it knows it, the manual is like day and night difference. Car starts making good power from 4000rpm and before that the auto would change gears.
The camrys have plenty of potential, i dont know why more people dont modify them. Example F series engines ie. 3sfe is know to be more economical than the g series 3sge, but at a dyno day there was a celica st162 3sge full exhaust inc extractors making 75kw@wheels, and a camry sv21 full exhasut inc extractrs 5speed 3sfe making 72kw at wheels, people have always said the 3sfe conpensates fuel economy for power, but those numbers are very similar if you ask me .
For those interested here are more pics and info on my car :
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/290592/1
Anyway, guys show us your pics of your camrys :

Too much petrol, water leaks, tempramental things, people looking, piggies looking, potential thieves looking etc.
I like my regular daily drivers
So I don't really mind if I get an auto or manual then. Whatever is available for the right price.
Thanks mate

for fuel economy and some other reasons yes. But a jza70 is a factory car which you can expect to run well.
My corona is a hybrid with not much of the original car left. Big single turbo, aftermarket ecu, 4.6:1 diff etc. If I had a jza70 I would drive it everyday.
