Munted front thrust washer, front thrust washer fell out, rear thrust washer fell out, carnk munted foward thrust faces. Cheaper to buy another wrecker engine than repair Laughing

2 things, if the clutch is in backwards do you know about it straight away? or does it take time to destroy the motor?

Also is that what a clutch should look like? It looks a bit chopped up. when i had mine out it was fairly clean.

In my case it was immediately obvious I had the clutch in backwards because you could hear the clutch plate grinding against the flywheel bolts. Not a nice sound at all.

Re: wjich way does clutch go in Tue, 09 August 2005 01:52 Go to previous messageGo to next message
In my case I started the car in neutral, after about 1 minute I clutched in to engage reverse and take off, at this point it made a nasty whining noise (crank grinding thrust washer real bad). I clutched out and put it in neutral again after about 30 seconds the engine stalled and would not sturn over again it had bound up. When I undid my bellhousing bolts the pressure was releaved and the motor turned again but it was short of thrust washers which were now lyng in the sump (didnt know this at the time, took another couple hundred km's of driving and an oil change to find out).

But anyway I should have known there was a problem as I had a fair bit of problems getting the engine and bellhousing to mate up properly.
