18rg to replace 22rc?

A fellow at my work has a 81? hilux with a 22rc. The motor in it is rooted.
My question is, will an 18rg out of an ra28 be able to replace it? ie are the sumps interchangeable, will i need to do anything else to make it fit?
Being a twin cam with twin carbies, one would think it would be at least as powerful as the 22rc??
Thanks guys

but are the sumps, oil pickup, oil pump and engine mounts etc interchangeable?
The truck very little has 2-300 extra kg in it - it doesnt tow big loads so the torque factor shouldnt be an huge issue?

is the hilux a rear sump or front sump curiously? for pretty much similar reasons, i would be interested to know also.
(just thinking of experimenting with crossmemebrs)

the 18R(g)'s in the RA23/28/40 have a mid bulge configuration.
im not sure what sump the 22R will have
some 18R powered toyotas did have a front bulge (coronas ?) sumps.
very good chance that the 18r mounts will sit too far foward compared to the hilux xmember. i put a 18RG in a RA60 not long ago - i just had some 100 x 10mm plate with 4 holes. i suspect that you would have to do similar
one downside of the 18RG's is their lack of low down torque. i had to wait for mine to reach ~3500 before the cams start to do their buisness - they pull pretty hard one in the power band though
oh yeh - if the 22R sump is the same as a 21R sump then they wont go onto a 18R

if its a 81 hilux tell him to convert everything to original and the rg should drop straight in as they had a 18rc in them. but i dont think mounts are interchangable and sumps are not. yuou can get rear sumps from the early hiluxs for it

The only Hilux 18R sump I've seen had a pretty similar mid-type layout as the 18RG/RA28 set up.
The only difference I could see (without direct comparison) was that the Hilux sump had a large drop-down extra reserviour section at the back of it. The plug was in this part.
This extra reserviour would be pretty important as the hilux would be expected to deal with different running angles that an RA28 would normally, what with 4WD trails and that.
