What could I chuck into the stock housing so I have two wheels spinning while I'm sliding?

If this Corona is the Australian made model its likely to have a Borg-Warner diff and LSD's for these are just no longer available.

actually even if it is the aus spec ones the irs models run different diff i'm pretty sure only the live rear axle ones like mine run a borg warner diff. And even that can be solved. A guy with a 1ggte conversion runs a R31 skyline lsd

If it has IRS it's definitely an F series diff, and yes an MA61 LSD will bolt right in. A TrueTrac centre is another option if you want to spend the $$$.

Do you know if the Detroit TrueTrac center is actualy available for the RT-142 IRS diff or was that just an example. I have checked there site and can't see that model listed. Thanks Norbie, im just in the market for one now. Thanks.

They have it listed for the "Toyota 4-cylinder Pickup/Land Cruiser II/4 Runner" (aka Hilux). The front diff for the 86-95 models is listed with a 7.5" diameter ring gear, in other words it's an F series diff. This means it will fit in any F series housing, including MA61, RA65 and RT142.
If you buy it through RabidChimp they'll also supply the correct bearings, which are different to the ones you have now.

Spend the difference, the Truetrac is awesome, so damn tight it chirps slightly pulling out of my driveway at the workshop, and so consistent.

Hmm odd. I would've thought that if it could take an MA61 LSD, then it could take a Truetrac. I'd keep researching, it's well worth it

PHOBIA wrote on Tue, 16 August 2005 15:30 | he has been advised that the AU delivered RT-142 with IRS has a 23 spline axle and as such they do not have a True Trac LSD to fit. The LSD that should fit (Toyota 4-cylinder Pickup/Land Cruiser II/4 Runner) have a 27 spline axle.
|
Are you sure he's not talking about the REAR diff there? The Hilux has a G series 8" diff in the rear, and an F series 7.5" diff in the front. It's the front diff you want, and I can 100% confirm it fits in an MA61 so there's no reason it won't fit in an RT142.

It was defiantly the Hilux front diff as you said that fits, but the "diff specialist" they use to fit up the centres is addiment that the RT-142 has the 23 spline axels and the Hilux run a 27 spline axel. I think I am just going to have to have a look for myself.

I think your "diff specialist" is smoking crack. The IFS Hilux TrueTrac centre has been successfully fitted to the MA61 Supra, RA65 Celica and even Stitt's old Crown wagon. I find it hard to believe the RT142 has a special type of F series diff that's totally different to all the other F series diffs, for no apparent reason.
