has anyone experimented with this successfully, or is the ridiculous offset stop this conversion happening?

The offset is not ridiculous, after all it suits a MA61. If you are talking about the 14 x 7 inch rims with 8mm offset, they fit perfectly on the back of my RA23, filling the guards nicely, but they stick out past the edge of the bodywork on the front, by about 8 to 10mm.

I don't see why not - I'm sure I've seen a few 'merican xA2x's with them.

I have a pair on the back of my RA23 right now. Even with 215/60 tyres they fit nicely. Look pretty good too.
