Hey Guys,
Just wondering what options I have as an upgrade for a gearbox in an AE86? Can you get second hand jap stronger tougher boxes or do you have to rebuild internals with stronger parts?

Any idea on how much this would cost to put together and who would be able to source and build the box?

you can buy w58's all over the place, check wreckers/importers around your area.
Nobody needs to build the box, toyota has already done that for you...

Any tricks on telling the difference on a w58 and a w57?
Am I correct to assume that this is not a direct bolt on to the 4AGE. You mentioned a niteparts bellhousing - is this what I need to make a w58 compatible with a 4Age?

Another option is to approach a machining/prototyping shop and have an adaptor made to take a T5 or even Toploader. Actually Landcruiser boxes are almost infinitely strong.
Might be worth a look.

I think Rex is stupid. Why would you want to fit a toploader, when you could fit an air-shifted drag box? A steal at 25 grand, and it'll make even more noise than a T5 OR a toploader! Best to fit a nine-incher as well...
In all seriousness, do a search - methinks this little topic has been covered more than once...
