master/booster upgrade to suit GT-R brakes Tue, 23 August 2005 09:33 Go to next message
Does any one have any ideas about what to use to upgrade the master and booster on my SA63 for gtr nissan brakes front and rear?
Is there a supra or hilux of some description that has large capacity brakes that i could fit the master and or booster from??

Are these 296mm GTR brakes? or 324mm GTR brakes?

Measure the piston size.

For 296mm brakes the stock m/c is fine.

Well, sort of.

The series 1 R32 GTR uses 296mm discs and Sumitomo calipers, where as Series 2 R32 GTR and on use 324mm discs and Brembo calipers.

I know from comparing the MA61 brakes to Skyline 4 spots/2spots (non Brembos) that there is negligible difference in piston area, so a change in master cylinder is not required.

However, you had drum rears, so I'd suggest you get an MA61 master cylinder and call it a day.

Cool, yes they are just the cheap sumitomo's, so what about the booster?

I doubt there is a different between the MA61 booster and the SA63 booster, but just for keeping it simple, use the MA61 booster too.

Skyline pistons have less surface area than MA61 pistons, so no need to upgrade m/c

Supra A70 brake booster... might have to bend your pipes to fit but it'll be strong enough.

I've played with a couple of sets of Nissan calipers, and find they feel soggy with less than a 1 inch cylinder, but it's a matter of what you like I suppose.

well after a wee play on the toyota parts files and a flick through a PBR catalouge i've come up with this.
MA61, SA63 etc have 23.81mm piston, same master cyl. and MX83 has ABS and diff. MC.
also Z32 nissans have 23.81mm piston too.
and i've finally found the resrtictor for the drum in the very front of the master.

Hopefully if i drill this out i'll be fine for brakes, well hopefully

Z32 Nissan should have a 1 1/16" master? At least the later ones should.

Stock is 15/16" yes, MA70 is 1"

EDIT: Z32 TT m/c are 1 1/16", or 26.98mm

And MX83 is 1" too.

uzs131 is 1" too Smile

funnyly enough - the ST205 brake MC is 15/16", but the brakes themselves are MASSIVE!!! Waaay bigger than any of the other toyotas listed above.

i think there is more to it than just bore diameter...

For reference, i use Hilux calipers on the Sprinter, along with a Mitsubishi Starion (15/16") master and the pedal feel is quite nice. Im switching to the Nissan brakes, simply for weight, but from driving a very similar setup car (15/16" and GTST brakes) the 15/16th seems pretty good.
Thinking of swapping in a R32 1" master to go along with it though.
